It seems a new software and firmware update has comeout yesterday under the radar. Just updated mine. The CPU will now be after the update 1.6

CPU release notes:

Version U1.6 - July 25, 2012

Fixed private call wildcard bug on Motorola and EDACS systems.

Added "ScanSets Opt" setting. If enabled (checked), Scan Sets alone govern whether a scan list is scanned; the master Scan List enable array is ignored.

Add option to tune to encrypted voice calls on Motorola systems. While the scanner will tune to those talkgroups, the scanner cannot decrypt the voice data being received.

Add option to tune to digital and/or encrypted voice calls on EDACS systems. While the scanner will tune to those talkgroups, the scanner cannot decode the ProVoice data or decrypt an encrypted voice channel.

Fixed 5th line not being cleared in "simple displays" mode, when going from a TGRP to a CONV object.

Fixed apparent "stuck" alternating displays when the display is updated frequently.

Fixed CCDump-to-file when loading a new V-Scanner folder.

The CCDump log count is now configurable. Available choices are 100, 200, 500 or 1000. This change also required the file name change to DUMP_nnn.LOG.

Note: Using a setting of 1000 can overwhelm a 2GB Micro SD card pretty quickly if most of your scanning is done on trunked systems.

Software release notes:

Version 1.06 - July 25, 2012

New Features:

Added options to the file menu to save the currently selected configuration to a ZIP archive and a second option to restore a configuration from a zip archive.

Notes:
The archive function will default to using the My Documents folder to save the archive file.
The archive function will provide a default ZIP file name based on the current configuration folder, the current date, and the current time.
The restore function will verify the existance of specific common files in the ZIP archive before allowing it to be used to restore the configuration.
The restore function will erase the current contents of the selected configuration folder before extracting the contents of the ZIP archive.

Adjusted the default battery meter values for NiMH batteries to the values below. If the V-Scanner folder being opened has the default values from previous versions, the application will set the values in that configuration to these defaults.

Bars Voltage
14 Bars 4.80v
12 Bars 4.70v
10 Bars 4.60v
8 Bars 4.50v
6 Bars 4.40v
4 Bars 4.30v
2 Bars 4.20v
0 Bars 4.10v
Alert 4.08v

Added pop-up menu to set default battery meter values on the voltage set list.

Moved the Set Location option to the general settings tab to make room for new options on the advanced options tab.

Added option to the advanced options tab to allow the scanner to stop on encrypted talkgroups on Motorola systems.

Please note: While the scanner will stop on these talkgroups, it will not decrypt the audio data. Encryption action settings will be used on Encrypted talkgroups.

Added option to the advanced options tab to allow the scanner to stop on digital/encrypted transmissions on EDACS systems.

Please note: While the scanner will stop on these talkgroups, it will not decode the audio of ProVoice systems.

If CPU firmware has been installed on the scanner, the radio will be automatically powered off and on as needed for configuration, Library, and firmware updates where possible. CPU firmware updates will still require manual intervention to place the scanner in update mode.

Added support for automatic update checking for the PC Application, CPU firmware, DSP firmware, Library database and Location Database. The feature may be disabled or modified using the option found under the PC Application's Update menu.

Note: For the CPU and DSP firmware update checks to be accurate, the scanner must be connected to the computer and turned on. If the scanner is not connected the last update version will be used for the check. If that is not available, a default of 1.0 will be used for both.

Added option to support the new firmware mode for Scan Sets. This option will change how Scan Sets interact with the master Scan List enabled flags. By default, an object must be a member of an enabled scan list, and the scanlist must be a member of an enabled scan set to be scanned. The new mode will cause the scan set options to override the master scan list enabled flags. An object will be scanned if it is a member of a scan list that is a member of an enabled scan set. The settings on the general tab for scan list enabled will be ignored.

Added the Radio ID column to the audio file listing.

Updated copyright notices to include the year 2012.

The CCDump log count is now configurable. Available choices are 100, 200, 500 or 1000. This option is located on the Advanced Options screen in the CC Dump area.

Note: Using a setting of 1000 can overwhelm a 2GB Micro SD card pretty quickly if most of your scanning is done on trunked systems.

Bug Fixes:

Fixed an obscure bug in the Set Location code that prevented the import of some channels.

Made changes to the conventional delete process from the conventional tab that dramatically reduces the time needed to delete multiple conventional objects.

Corrected an issue creating the Radio ID data file when importing a P25 trunked system using the standard import option. The PC Application will rebuild the file indexes when the files are opened.

Fixed issue when updating the DSP firmware when connecting to the Internet through a proxy server

Corrected a display issue with some Motorola system sub-types on the site list.

Corrected import issue with P25 systems that are marked as Phase-II in the library database. This issue was only present when using the Set-Location import method. The standard import method would allow these systems to be imported.

Corrected an issue with the import screen not being properly refreshed when creating a new V-Scanner folder, or when deleting a V-Scanner folder when it was the currently selected folder.

You update using the desktop software, not downloading it from the website.

I was hoping for a (do not record if encrypted) option. I would like to be able to leave the radio scanning or searching Fed stuff without wading through hours of garbled recordings to find the clear ones.

Still no changes in multisite (adding the old STAT option). What a drag....

Yep rather disappointing given it's one of the more sought after features and the amount of time that has now passed.

Also disappointing there's no mention of anything relating to P25 TDMA.

Nice to see some issues being dealt with and refined though.

Can the PSR 800 be programmed on the fly, without software?

Thanks,

I knew better but I went ahead and did the CPU/Software update anyway. Now I have lost my back light and LED settings. KEY PRESS used to light the back light when the scanner received a signal, now it only lights it when you press a key. NORMAL seems to mean off. ON does light the back light all the time. But the LED doesn't light or flash. And before you ask, yes the settings are ON / FLASH or ON / ON for the TGID's I want to mark. There may be another setting somewhere else but if there is, I can't find it. Also digital decoding seems to be worse now.

Does anyone know how I can roll back?

The more I read about this thing, the more I'm on the fence if I want one or not??
I'm not liking the limitations.
CAN it be programmed without software, on the fly?

Well I Can now pipe my Edacs system through DSD this alone made the update appealing to me.

now if they would put that feature back in the 500 I would be thrilled

So this means systems and tg's or conventional can NOT be programmed in with a pc handy?

n9zas
They can only be added by using a library import from Radio Reference (without a PC with GRECOM software handy). Conventional can also be added by using the frequency search and adding the frequency once it stops on it.
