I apologize if this has been covered, but I couldn't find it in a search.

I recently acquired a PSR-800 scanner. Owned one last year, got rid of it and regretted it. Now I'm on my second go round.

Anyway, one thing I seem to have forgotten to do is to have the TGID number display. I've got the alpha tag showing at the moment, but if I remember correctly, it can go from one to the other.

Can't seem to figure it out either by doing it on the scanner or thru the software.

Any help / comments / suggestions are appreciated.

It's under the advanced tab in the software. Very top left hand corner. "Trunked System Channels" Line 3.

Or in the radio, Settings>Expert>Show TGID

I still must be doing something wrong. On line 3, I do have it set to Alpha Tag and TGID, and thru the scanner, it shows a check mark for Show TGID, but all I still get is the alpha tag.

Not that's it that big of a deal, but I would prefer both to display.

Make sure you don't have simple display checked. It's the 4th option down in the settings in the radio and in the software it's under display settings on the general tab, left hand side above the sound settings.

Yep, it was checked. Unchecked it and now it's doing what I want it to do.

Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

Yes, I've been monitoring Starcom with my 800. To be honest, I'm still trying to figure it all out, so I'm not 100% sure what tower I'm hearing. I've got both programmed in, with about 200 TGID's to boot. For the most part, the reception I'm getting here in Alsip is pretty good; only (so far) an occasional dropped signal, which, BTW, gives off a sound like a busy telephone line. Don't know if that's the scanner doing that, or the trunking system.

As for programming it without EZ-Scan, it can be done thru the RR library that's on the SD card. I myself have found that I prefer to program thru the software, but if you're out in the field, or traveling, it is nice to have the whole RR database at your fingertips.

To update what I posted yesterday, I now know that I am hearing the south tower. After playing with the settings, I've got it where on the display, it shows first the system and then the site, and it has been showing "chicago - south."

You can change that if you want. Either in the radio's expert settings (EncMode) or it's also on the advanced tab of the software (Encrypted Digital Audio Settings)

Thanks scannerfreak. Changed the setting to silent.

Man, I guess I really need to read the manual for this thing LOL.

I actually don't have my 106 yet. I just ordered it yesterday, so I should have it by Saturday. I'll be able to do some comparison scanning then.

I didn't know that either.

Personally I like the sound, it lets me know that something I am listening to is busy but I can't hear it.

You and me both (and I have owned this for quite a while now). ;)

Well, after having my 106 for a couple of days now, and having it scan Starcom alongside my PSR-800, I can honestly say that I can't tell any difference between the two of them when it comes to reception. Both are using a Radio Shack 800Mhz antenna and sitting about 8 to 10 inches apart from each other here on my computer desk. What sounds garbled on one sounds pretty much the same on the other. Those transmissions that are coming in crystal clear on one is crystal clear on the other. About the only difference I can tell is in audio quality. To my ear, the 800 has better sounding audio output.

Hope that helps you some.
