How old is the PSR800?
What size was the SD Card?
The max size of the SD Card is 32GB But I run 8GB cards.
You have to follow the directions in the above link 100%.
If the SD Card fails the scanner shuts down.

A 32 gig card is overkill and slows down scanner start up. An 8 gig card is suffient as the database is really only a small file. If you use an external SD usb adapter, you will find it much faster than trying to do the same process with the card in the radio. Use the format option in the EZ Scan software, not the one that is part of Windows.

You CAN use the 32gb SD card, it just takes much longer to load initially since it has to check the entire card.
This bigger card can contain many days of recording in addition to the usual operating files. That is the only advantage to the card's size.

Have you tried to do a firmware update from the Whistler site? If so you may have loaded incorrect firmware and need to reload the GRE firmware (I think you can find it on RR somewhere). If all else fails, contact Whistler repair for a quote and shipping instructions.

First try this: remove & replace the sd card a few times to make sure contacts have not become oxidized.

--- If you have a sd card adapter to usb, use that instead of the radio to reformat and reload programming. Then reinstall card and see if radio starts correctly---

if no adapter:
plug in USB cable to radio, then to pc, be sure your radio is powered off. You should hear the pc chime to indicate the driver is loaded and the card directory may or may not appear. If not, reinstall program to reinstall drivers. The radio display should also respond.

start EZ Scan program. If you have the current programming already saved to pc, skip this step, if not, try to download from radio to pc so you do not lose all your favorite directories. Then use EZ scan to prepare card for use (re-format) and then reload current programming.

If this does not work, the radio probably needs to be sent for repair. They will upgrade the radio internals to Whistler so it can take future firmware updates and DMR when they repair it.

Reminder: If you used the unauthorized program that was available a few years ago to make the PS800 think it was a Whistler, you will be charged an additional repair fee.

Hope this helps.

The best answer may be to send the scanner to Whistler for the Legacy Upgrade. That will convert the scanner to a WS1080. You will be able to use the later firmware updates and the scanner will be eligible to be serviced by Whistler. It will also give you DMR capability. I don't know the status of their repair facility at this time with the coronavirus. You may have to wait.

I am using a 32G card, no real issues. Not worried about how long it takes to boot (nor the clock when the unit is off) because I don't turn a unit off.

I've found getting Windows to recognize the scanner to be tricky. The exact steps depend on the OS you're running. What I do is power off the scanner with the USB connected. Windows should now recognize the SD card as an external drive. Then I run EZ Scan. When it complains that it can't connect, I unplug the USB, wait a moment, plug it back in. Wait for Windows to recognize the drive again. Now click Try Again in EZ Scan (you shouldn't have closed the dialog box while you were disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable).
