PSR-800 in Newfoundland

I'm in the market for and researching portable digital trunking scanners. Has anyone used the PSR800 in Newfoundland and if so, how well did it work? For some years now, I've had an ICOM IC-R2 ...just wondering what extras I'll see here in NL.

How about anyone who's used other digital scanners in Newfoundland, particularly central?

I've used a BC-996xt last couple of trips to Newfoundland. It worked will on the provincial P25 system.
As long as it digital capable can't see why the PSR-800 wouldn't work there. Only area I had
problem was in the Twilligate area. But, I think it was just a frequency error on my part.

I'll be in the Avalon by Friday morning for vacation and doing support of Targa operations. I believe that the PSR800 may need you to change a couple of settings in the default configuration in order to monitor the P25 trunk properly. There's a band plan setting accessed via EZ-Scan software, in the site options for each site (if I recall correctly).. make sure it is set to "Auto" instead of "Standard" (or whatever it defaults to). NPR P25 does not use a standard band plan, and I'm pretty sure you will not get any comms if you have it set to Standard.

I have successfully monitored the P25 system with a PSR800, a PSR500 (trunk CC dump into Unitrunker only), and a 396XT and a HomePatrol. After Targa is over, I'll be around for a couple weeks, and I'll be trying to flesh out more of the sites and pin them down in the right places.

Thanks ve1sef and Jay911. Your response has been a great help ... seems I'll do well with any of the several digital trunk scanners! I have a portable IC-R2 wideband receiver however, it only scans conventional and not trunk or digital. Jay ... I downloaded and played around with the EZ Scan software and found the setting you suggested.

After Targa is over, I'll be around for a couple weeks, and I'll be trying to flesh out more of the sites and pin them down in the right places.

Can anyone tell me if any of the Gov of NL Transportation frequencies can be monitored on either a digital or convention scanner? I think the system they are using is LTR passport (posted in database)!
