There is virtually no difference other than the 668 is new, and the 800 is 5+ years old. 668 my have small. Insignificant hardware changes. And firmware differences due to component availability, but operationally, they are identical. There was a short run of the 800 that had some kind of coating on the case that turns sticky over time. But folks have found out how to remove it without damaging the scanner

I thought that, too, but then I heard of a feature the 1080 has that the 800 does not (specifically, frequency entry). Not sure which side of the line the 668 falls on, but it may not be identical. Also, the 108 (predecessor to the 668) had a couple features missing that were on the 800 like recording.

The 668 as far as I can tell is the same as the 800. It does not have a couple of features, like conventional freq menu, that the 1080 has. I did not mention that, because the OP was asking about the 800 and 668. He did not mention the 1080. Also currently, the 1080 is $100 more than a 668.

I have both the they are every bit the same. I was able to copy one of the folders file from the PSR-800 programming over to the radio shack software for the Pro-668 so I didn't have to redo the programming. I did have to go into the advanced setting for the Pro-668 software after and set it to defaults and then manually change the advanced settings to get the signal strength meter to work correctly but it was easy. Now that they are both scanning you can't tell one from the other besides the name on the front of the scanner.

Looks like they were just thrown overboard for future firmware support, will put them into the box next to the $75 PRO 18s I have

PRO668 Clearance

Check with the stores that RadioShack is closing , they are $200 now . If they get to $100 I'm going to buy 10 to resell later .
