For some reason my scanner is stopping on inactive talkgroups (no audio), it will not start scanning again until I go in the menu and hit the scan command. I have also noticed the top line of the display is flashing on and off. Anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this? In case it matters it is a Motorola analog/mixed system that this is occuring on.

Try pressing the right arrow key. This usually works for me.

Are the TGIDs encrypted?

Lots of encryption by LEOs in your area... You might be stopping on an encrypted talkgroup, and the software is muting the "R2D2-like" audio, or the volume of the encrypted tgid is set so low that you can't hear it. Both are options in the EZ Scan software.

Also, you might want to check to see if the system you're monitoring hasn't rebanded. As for the flashing on the top line--the only thing that should be flashing is the T to indicate that you're tracking a trunked signal. If the entire line is flashing, I'm at a loss to explain that...

Its not an encryped talkgroup and isn't even an LEO. The system rebanded some time ago, the system is also in the process of being phased out Public Safety has already moved to the new system (Digital-X2) and everyone else will be moved in time. I know I can press the arrow key to get it to scan again, I just can't figure out why the scanner stops scanning in the first place.

I've seen my PSR800 flickering and not receiving anything but that wasn't the top line, it was the bottom IIRC - that was caused by it not having the right band plan. The trunk system was telling it to go to LCN 123, shall we say, but there was no traffic on that frequency because LCN 123 was a completely different frequency.

I now know what the problem was, the old analog system and the new digital system are using some of the same frequencies including control channels. So in order trunk track both systems at the same time you have to lock out the digital system control channel on the analog system and vice-versa.
