Yes, the "T" does mean it is receiving the control channel.
If the T is not lit, the scanner is still trunking if set to a trunked system but it is not hearing the control channel.
I also think the more the T is lit indicates the quality of the CC reception.
I have a weak P25 system here that I monitor and the T flashes more than it is steady due to the weak signal.
On a very local P25 system, the T is lot almost solid.

As to what is wrong, I can't help ya there.

Do you have the right talk groups numbers programed into the system? As the others have said, the flashing 'T' indicates that the scanner is picking up and decoding the instructions broadcast on the Control Channel. But if you don't have the active talk group(s) programed then it will never move to a voice channel and decode the voice data.

If the system you are trying to monitor is a P25 system and if the system frequencies are in the 770-790 MHz range then:

1. Open EZScan and select the "Trunked Radio Systems" tab.
2. On the top list, highlight the problem system. At the "Trunked System Site Details" list on the bottom left, select a site.
3. Select the "Site Options" tab from the right list and be sure that you have selected "Auto Fill" under "Trunking Tables".

I don't know why buy my county's TRS is a 700 MHz system and EZScan defaults to "Custom" for the trunking tables.

Jackj thanks for the reply. I'm working with badger505 on this issue. Custom was the default under the trunking table. I didn't see Auto fill as an option. The 3 options are default, splinter, and custom. I did change it to default but still no joy. I am able to pickup other trunked systems in the area but love field pd/operations is still silent. I do have almost a solid T just no voice on any channels under that site. Is there anybody in the DFW area that can shed some light on this issue? This is my first scanner and I have only had it a few days so any input would be appreciated. I'm still trying to learn how to use this thing.

It's not a P25 system but, rather a Motorola Type II, *maybe* `Smartnet', simulcast system which has 4 CCs. It *might* be that not all 4 CCs are `installed' in the `site list' *and*/*or* the right one is turned on. What *might* be happening is that the radio is picking up the first CC it comes to and it isn't the current/in use CC. *I* would first set the `site options' to `default' and go through the CCs one by one to see if one of them works. After that I'd try custom and start playing with custom tables on each CC thpugh I've got this strange feeling that it is only an improperly selected CC. (It's been a quite a while since *I* have had to deal with an old analog Moto system. {WAN GRIN!})

Well, if you're trying to monitor Cedar Hill's system, you won't. It is Nexedge. You can, however, use the IF menu that is in the PSR-800, an audio cable, PC or laptop running Linux, and a DSD program to decode the Nexedge transmissions. Couldn't find Love Field PD/FD in the RR database.

I figured it out. The default radio was set to custom and fm. Changed it to type 2 and NFM and it works like a charm. Thanks again for all the input.
