Holy crap! Is that a typo on the scannermaster website??

How did the price double? Is this some kind of new "version"?

Sure glad I got mine for Christmas!

No, this is simple "supply & demand" like when a disaster occurs. There are some who triple the price of goods and/or gasoline in the presence of a major disaster like a hurricane. Luckily, there are authorities who disallow such behavior and go after these greedy people with charges.

However, if you have a radio that is the last of a stagnate stock, you are free to charge whatever the market will bear. Amazon is known for this type of behavior.

Personally, I find this practice disgusting. I would rather monitor Burger King than give into this even it involves using a Bearcat IV.

I will wait them out. If GRE does not remedy their production issues, I will just wait for someone else to deliver the goods.

It is sad that this mess has affected production, but we are dealing with red tape between two nations, I would imagine the paperwork is endless.

Of course, if this radio ends up being built in America, the price might remain elevated.

I don't really know.

Here's how you fix money hungry vendors. Don't buy from them anymore. You know they did not pay inflated pricing from GRE. They have lost my business. There are plenty of reputable companies left.

Wow!

I can't believe that. Truly amazed.

I can see raising it up a bit for whatever reason but double??

As I said, I'm glad the Christmas gift was at the "original" price, otherwise I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten one. ;)

Now I understand why they list a GRE PSR 400 for $299! I emailed them asking if this was the correct price. They said it was, and that if I was looking for a less expensive trunking scanner to look at the Uniden BCT15X. I don't agree with this type of price gauging at all.

As a PSR-800 owner I must say this is a decent scanner, but it is not worth the excessively marked up price that online retailers are currently charging for it. There are better solutions for less cost. The retailers are robbing scanner customers.

If you live in a large metropolitan area as I do, you might find this scanner worthless when trying to program it in the field. It will have hundreds if not thousands of objects -- far too many for the limited display. The end result is you have to program the scanner in advance with a computer running the EZ Scan software. The vast choice of objects makes the entire point of easy selection self defeating.

Save your money. Buy something else, or be very patient and wait a year or longer for the next generation of handheld scanners.

Once a dealer sells a PSR-800 he can't replace it in his stock. GRE isn't manufacturing any more scanners so once the dealer's stock is sold, well that's it. For some reason or other Uniden hasn't seen fit to market a scanner that will receive P-25 Phase II traffic. The 800 is the ONLY scanner available that will monitor it and if you want to hear it you will have to pay the price.

What I don't understand is why GRE is getting out of the business. There obviously is a demand for scanners like the 800. Uniden has the chance to corner the market but they don't seem to be interested. Something strange is going on.

When the country where you manufacture your product for what amounts to "slave wages" shuts down your factory------it takes some time to re-group.

Finding another place (and bribing the government ) takes some planning IF you can find a place that will allow you to set up business at a cost where you can sell the scanner and still make a profit.

Last i heard was that GRE still is trying to re start their manufacturing................................who knows if they ever will

They can only rob the customer if the customer is willing to write the check.

the 800 was never designed to be programed in the field. The steps which make it possible are really just an afterthought in the radio software. The 800 concept was to be programed using the EZScan..............

The V-scanner capability is the "field programming" for ALL GRE handhelds, didn't you know this????
