Greetings friends, I just wanted to tell everyone about my recent experiences with programming softwares which are currently being used for the Pro-106 scanner. As you know, there are 3 main softwares being discussed and used by RR members and Pro-106 scanner enthusiasts. They are usually the PSRedit500, the WIN500, and the BuTel ARC500. I have personally tried all 3. All work well, but I am taking a fondness of the PSRedit500 version. It seems to be working out best for me, and I am enjoying the way its laid out, in terms of ease of use. A short while back, after downloading all 3 demo versions, I began to concentrate on PSRedit500 and WIN500. I have been using the PSRedit500 software much more frequently, in fact, I am hardly using the WIN500 software at all. I invite you to try all 3, especially since the 30 day trial versions are free. I do believe that the best and only way to really enjoy the Pro-106 is to use the programming software. No matter which software you choose, no matter which one you are currently using, give PSRedit500 a try. You wont be dissapointed.
Scanner programming software looks complicated at first glance... it appears that way, but its really not that difficult to understand and navigate. There were 3 or 4 RR members who had asked me about scanner software, and they to were sceptical. Some of those members were sweetgenes, lllllll, and Kf4uuz. I explained to them that once you try it, and use it for a day or so, its gets easy to enjoy. I personally spoke to these members thru one on one telephone conversations, and taught them how to set-up, configure, and import freq's from the RR database. These conversations took approx 3 to 4 hours each, but they are all now up and running. I enjoyed helping them, and did so because time permitted it.
You don't need me to teach you the software, if ya look at it a few times, and your familiar with past scanner softwares, you will figure it out. If ya make a mistake, you can start over. The main thing that I stress, is to give the software a chance... it's so much easier to program a scanner using scanner programming software, than to do it manually.
the link for PSRedit500 is here http://www.psredit.com/
I have also started a social group for the owners of the RS Pro-106 and the link is here http://www.radioreference.com/forums/groups/radio-shack-pro-106-owners.html
