Following power outages and the loss of internet signals, a large portion of the population in Rio Grande do Sul state have once again opened their ears to the information transmitted by the old battery-operated radio.

Awesome article. For we radio hobbyists, it was stating the obvious, but it's still cool to read about radio being a vital tool for communication in a modern state like Brazil.

Radio Nacional da Amazonia is pretty cool to listen to, because the nighttime announcer mentions most of the Brazilian cities and states during his program, and fields calls from those places. It is a truly national medium. Even if you don't know the language you can recognize the states and cities being mentioned.
