Monitoring the Lake County PSIC sites, TG 6153 - IA9, seems to be a rebroadcast of Marine Channel 16. Lots of good coast guard traffic.
Key West, and St Pete sectors so far.

Mod Edit: We didn't have a master PSIC thread - we do now!

does PSIC consider a statewide system? I see it mainly covers large portion of Central FL (especially Lake county) and sites diminish the further south you go.

Also this may sound stupid, but I just don't see a point of PSIC consider most counties have its own P25 system already. It seems like PSIC is a big waste of taxpayers' money, not to mention most comms are full time encrypted.

Somebody with more / better knowledge please chime in, but IIRC, PSIC was at one point envisioned to be a statewide system that just didn't take off, with Lake and a few other counties down near Palm Beach being the guinea pigs.

The 700MHz PSIC overlay sites were built out mostly by federal interoperability grants that each state gets for such projects. There are more sites planned for addition in the same manner to expand the footprint.

The sites are connected back to the Lake core via a network that each county already had a connection to. This solution was much more cost effective, by a large order of magntiude over interconnecting every other system with each other via ISSI.

The PSIC talkgroups themselves are valid system-wide and are extremely useful for events that can span multiple geographical areas. Think pursuit on Turnpike, VIP movement via motorcade, funeral procession that traverses many counties, SAR involving many different agencies on disparate radio system technologies. FHP, FWC and most local agencies that are within coverage of the sites have control stations that they can patch to their native subscribers for interop between users without the officer trying to find a resource ten zones deep when they are focusing on the task at hand.

Just to add to the very informative post immediately above, PSIC is set up as true SmartZone roaming, so if there is activity on the system and you are not near a site with any affiliated users you will hear absolutely nothing.

Quick Question: Does anyone know what counties belong to each PSIC and ISSI Region talkgroup? Or is this done at random?

No counties belong to any specific PSIC talk-group. They are valid on every site in the system.

Indan River was patched to Brevard PSIC 4 the other day. PSIC 4 on the volusia system also herd them.

Volusia PSIC 4 is very active patching lake county alot for MA calls.

I wondered if there were any regions defined.

Since Volusia and Brevard are analog, i can never tell where the patch is coming from.
