Pueblo County (and some nearby counties to their south, east, and west will jump on and share) are getting their own DTRS zone controller as apposed to new radios as the headline makes it sound.

Any new sites identified or just a zone controller and upgrades to the existing sites?

Here is the PCSO press release on it with some different and more technical wording (even though most Chieftain readers of the other article have no idea what a "Zone Controller" is...

PCSO - Media Center

Also the CCNC monthly meeting minutes did include this last November and probably in others:

800 MHz site licenses recently Granted:
Pueblo – 5 Site Simulcast – 12 Channels

The comments made by the PCSO Emergency Services Bureau Chief are concerning. It doesn't appear he has a clear understanding of how the DTRS works. I hope the Sheriff is not getting all his advise from this individual.

In the last few days Pueblo County and City have been using a few new radio IDs that look like dispatch radios but I will have to confirm it. Maybe this has something to do with their new zone controller.

Pueblo City

699961
699962
6999963 (yes these have an extra 9 in them)

Probably a fat finger when programming the radio IDs?

These are in fact dispatch radios and they are new and likely have to do with the new Zone Controller that Pueblo was said to have installed.

Great question Kevin.

It sounds like the switchover is only in the beginning stages. Starting with radio ID number changes (now many or all Pueblo dispatch console RIDs begin with a 6).

When they do completely switch over to their own zone controller then the site numbers most likely would change to start with something like a 6 for Pueblo but I am not within range of any of Pueblo's zone sites. I am listening on Cheyenne Mountain which is zone 1 but is able to cover the southern edge of Pueblo County so it does have a lot of their TGs and radio IDs carried on it.

If anyone is able to monitor any of the Pueblo County sites directly, please chime in, but I can tell you that the two Pueblo County adjacent sites to Cheyenne Mountain still show up as zone 1 as well. Greenhorn still shows up as 135 and San Carlos Correctional shows as 139. I will keep an eye on those to see if they change over soon.

Going through my logs from earlier in May, I see that those new 6XXXXX dispatch radio IDs first popped up on May 15th (1619-1711 hrs) on MAC-9 as some kind of coordination between RIDs 699940/699944/699947 and RID 307935 (state radio tech). I don't know who exactly is using the 699940/44/47 IDs though.

They did not show up on Pueblo County TGs for a couple days after that, then the 4790XX county dispatch console IDs stopped showing up on the evening of May 18th and were replaced by the 69998X IDs.

Pueblo City TGs took longer to change out their dispatch radio IDs. Their switchover occurred around noon on May 29th with their dispatch IDs of 48050X switching to the 699960, 699961, 699962, 6999964, and 6999965 and probably more.

It looks like even Cheyenne Mountain in El Paso County and Twin Mountain in Fremont County are now part of Pueblo's infamous Zone-6 that just took effect.

The Cheyenne Mountain DTRS site (was site ID 148/T0138) in El Paso County is now showing as site ID 648/T0630) with the same CC frequency as it had before.

The Twin Mountain DTRS site (was site ID 149/T0131) in Fremont County is now showing as site ID 649/T0631 with same CC frequency as it had before.

I suspect lots of others In Pueblo County changed over to Zone-6 as well. As you can see from the Cheyenne Mountain tower file below, San Carlos site 139 in Pueblo County has not yet changed over.

Anyone down further down south toward Pueblo that can get new tower files for Pueblo area sites would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the new tower file for Cheyenne Mountain.

And Greenhorn Hill (site 135) was a neighbor of Cheyenne Mountain before the cut-over to Zone-6 but it isn't now. All other Cheyenne Mountain neighbors are the same as before. I'll check to see if it comes back.

Ramah (site 123) was down earlier as well (it said site failed), but came back up. Could be related to emergency site maintenance as well.

Well, Greenhorn Hill is back as a site neighbor for Cheyenne Mountain and now it is showing as Zone-6 as well (site 635 now), but it shows "Failed, Current" for now.

I have a strange feeling Ramah will be soon too.

It looks like they are either not bringing all the Pueblo area sites into Zone-6 or they are doing a REALLY SLOW phase-in for the rest of the sites.

I picked up the CSU Pueblo (aka Walking Stick) DTRS site 161 and found a couple more sites that went over to Zone-6.

These two are now in Zone-6:

660 - 12 Mile
662 - Pueblo Chemical Depot

These are confirmed as still in Zone-1:

134 - Fowler
139 - San Carlos Correctional
151 - Deer Peak
165 - Jackson Hill
161 - CSU Pueblo
166 - Goat Hill

Here is the CSU Pueblo (site 161) tower file (I was not able to log very long so no hit counts for the alt control channels with voice or anything, will try more later):

It looks like they fixed the 3 IDs above that had the extra 9 in them. Now they are showing up correctly and the last time the ones with too many 9s showed up was at the very end of May.

Yesterday, June 17th at about 10:40 am, the CSP 2B dispatch console radio ID changed

from 499369

to 699943/699944

Another Zone-6 related switch...

That would be great! If you have the Pro96Com software and can log a few sites it would be awesome. Whatever sites you can listen to from your location. If you need help you or specifics about which sites you can email or call. See your private messages. Thanks!

I don't have Pro96Com yet, but I found out that I can download it for free. I can get all of the sites in Pueblo county as well as the Fowler site. When I get home this weekend I'll set everything up and see how it goes. If I do need any help, I'll give you a hollar.
