• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just purchased a guide wire radio tower- currently there is a non paying sprint contract as well as a local radio station on it. How do I go about adding customers to come on to tower?

First off, as the new owner of the tower, you should know that it's guyed, not guide...as in guy wire, not guide wire.

As for attracting paying customers, frankly if the tower site has existed for quite some time (which is likely if there is Sprint equipment there), it may not be that much of a desirable location if no other carriers or businesses already have a presence there.

There is quite a lot involved in owning and maintaining a radio tower/site, so good luck to you.

The first question, why would they want to use your tower? Is it in a good RF location or does it have an advantage over other tower that cover the same area?

Why is Sprint not paying? I'd recommend fixing that. Usually cell carriers are pretty good income.

There are tower brokers that you might want to talk to.
Example, not recommending: Cell Tower Broker & Cell Tower Lease Broker
They'll do the hard work for you. But generally, if the people are not coming to you, that means they don't need access to the site. If the tower is on the FCC ASR, they'd be able to find you. If it's not, that might make it difficult. Make sure you have a name/number contact on the gate.

Every tower in my area of the UK is losing antennas, not gaining them.
What benefit would a person have to wish to use your facility? What i mean is if you look at individuals, small, medium and large businesses, what improvement in their comms would your tower offer? I dont have a tower but my home is on a hill, and i have a business repeater on it. Ten years ago, three businesses used it, and with no real outgoings, bar licence, it made me money. A farmer, a taxi firm and a driving school. Driving school and farmer moved to phones, and the taxi firm moved to and IP over cellular system. My service area is covered by decent cell, as your is, so what advantage over sprint do you have to offer. Customers who want radio like coverage can use the IP system through any phone system with a data card. Does the income from your two customers even meet the running costs? I fear you have bought a big problem.

In addition to maintenance, inland marine insurance for the tower is a less than fun ongoing expense as well.

Sprint hasn't existed since 2019, and was acquired by T-Mobile. Second, review leases. If none exists, evict them. Why does this smell troll? Is it just me?
After the T-Mobile acquisition, Sprint sites and T-Mobile sites coexisted for a while, but within the last 18 months Sprint has abandoned and/or removed all their sites in my area.

Correct. T-Mo shut down Sprint in 2020-2021. Customers had to get new SIM/ESIMs and even devices that couldn't be unlocked but the legacy Sprint network is gone. I know of three of my sites, they came and got the old Sprint stuff, decommissioned one of the three as it wasn't needed. My point was the company has been gone for almost 5 years so if someone claims their equipment is still up, it is abandoned in place.

When you first join a forum and ask a question - you have had to sign up, fill the details in and then post your question. Then, when I do this, I keep popping back hoping to get the answer that all that effort generated? In this case, he's never been back? I wonder why somebody would ask a specific question and not bother to check back? Weird!

When you need an answer, you check back. Some forums have amazingly high traffic others dont. Length of time before checkback vs importance of question. A direct link.

While we are waiting for the original poster to return (snoooooz), Have you noticed there are a lot of surplus towers out there. Just drive along our freeways and notice the number of towers that never had a system installed. Also as the carriers march into ever high and higher G systems, the antennas come down on the towers. I hear in LA the antennas are at light pole level and the original towers are emptying. Tower sites might be available at bargain basement prices.

BUT: Many of these nice towers are in the wrong place for repurposing. The number of land mobile licenses has fallen off since COVID. Who will your customer(s) be? If you have the skills and tools to remove the towers, resell them and reinstall them elsewhere; there might be a potential business. BUT also, many cities and towns hate towers so reinstalling them there might be a problem.

Maybe you can see a business opportunity but I don't. Too bad, it once was a nice butter and egg business.

Small cells are the rage here in suburbs. So much so, the telecom cartel lobbied our state to get rid of gubment red tape and fast track approving them, limit the amount of leases a gov can charge a cartel, and pandering to their needs. Meanwhile, in rural and ex-urban areas, cellular service is barely enough to cover streets. But yes, the days of "big towers" for cellular are long over. mm wave bands are designed for close quarters base radios on light poles and rooftops, not big sticks.

Yup. We sold our Towers in 2017, and really think it was perfect timing, all things considered. Although, the new owner has added a Customer or two on all of them and only lost I think 2 total of what we had.
He has far more connections than we did.

Back in the early 2000's when I worked for a large ESMR we paid farmers $750 a month to lease about 1,500 square feet for a self-supporter/shelter and in most cases gave them a nice new gravel road they could use to access their land. Those days are long gone.
