• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Interesting. Would be cool to get one with the embossed FDNY logo, but we know that'll never happen, lol.

A bit late to the party but when my father worked for the EMS system he was given for one for one of the old radios (might've been the HT, but I don't recall) so that's where you could start, by working for the 911 system lol

Id like to find an APX 1000 / 4000 either one on 700 / 800 MHz for the fire dept I am on. I have one in my car however I would like to have an extra for the house incase I jump in my personal vehicle. I have been watching on Ebay but $800 is more than I want to spend. I have to have a radio that is TDMA also for our dept. Are there any other radios that will do Apco 25 Phase 2 and TDMA?

Before you spend a large sum of money DOES THE DEPARTMENT YOU WORK FOR ALLOW PERSONAL RADIOS AND WHO IS GOING TO PAY THE BILL FOR IT TO BE ON THE SYSTEM?
Your entry level MOTOROLA is a APX6000 for P25 Phase II $2000 PLUS USED.

Hey, I have a Motorola Razr flip phone also! But I retired it about 15yrs ago.

Mine is still going and oddly Verizon has not sent out an impending doom letter for Dec 2020 so I think they are still stuck with me.

I figure I have saved close to $7K in equipment and service charges by avoiding smartphone madness since buying my RazrV3M back in 2006. Also I have gone places where my wife's 4G phone does not work on the Verizon network and mine keeps going. My biggest expense are in finding NOS or aftermarket batteries every 2 years or so.

Lots, but you'll need to get authorization from your radio system support/manager as to what they will allow on the system and can program/provision.
The system I manage we have Kenwood, Relm/BK, Harris and EF Kenwood but all third party subscribers must be properly vetted before we will program them and it must be done either by our staff or someone we authorize.

Hi Alfonso! Love that APX 8000HXE you have! It sounds great on 10200 and 31077.

My latest acquisition was the EFJ5100ES. It’s the least expensive P25 radio I’ve bought at $85 which included a battery, new drop-in charger, antenna and in a new yellow housing. I flashed the ES myself adding FPP and MDC1200 (still used by a local county Sheriff) using PCIssue.

So yesterday I was able to play with a brand new APX NEXT. Honestly, for the regular road guy or interior firefighter, I see that big screen being beat to hell. ViQi was Ok, I fondled her knobs but left unsatisfied. The LTE feature for the brass and specialized units the biggest selling point in my opinion, with the ability to carry the talkgroup outside the trunked systems coverage area. Right now they are using AT&T ePTT. We always laugh that the mode number is the price...I guess the next means you add another digit to that.
