Slept with the scanner on and caught the end of the Burtonsville double-shooting situation. Then I woke up again just before a Park PD officer attempted to stop a car. I had a feeling the driver would flee and he did.

This is how CBS WUSA reports it:

It started with a U.S. Park Police detective working an unrelated case in downtown DC. It ended in Charles County after a police chase with the arrest of a man police say has been committing some "serious crimes" while impersonating a federal agent.

No details yet on what crimes were committed, but Park Police Sergeant Scott Fear says it's been going on for months. The man in custody is described as being in his early 20s from Oxon Hill.

Fear says the detective was interviewing some individuals overnight when they pointed out the suspect. The detective was able to get his cell phone number, and the two talked during the chase through the District onto highway 210 in Charles County. He gave up after his vehicle was disabled and is being held for now on traffic charges while police seek a warrant for impersonating a federal agent.

"He gave up after his vehicle was disabled" That's not the way I heard it. The chase went all over DC, 3rd and 4th District were notified first and advised to stay out of it. The car then went through 1st D and then east through Anacostia before heading south on 210. Around the time the chase was in PG Co a I heard on the 3rd D channel an officer telling dispatch to notify Park PD that he had the suspect's phone number. It then sounded like the Park PD unit (601) immediately behind the car was communicating with its driver. First he was able to negotiate the driver to slow down. About 5-10 minutes later the suspect stopped and gave up.

Charles Co managed to blow out the tires of at least two Park PD cars before they were notified to stop using spike strips. Towards the end of the chase the Park PD dispatch was having some trouble hearing the pursuing units and Eagle-1 provided relay. I'm about 40 miles away from where the chase ended and noticed only slight degradation in reception.

The NBC 5pm broadcast about the incident seemed more accurate.
