While listening to Putnam Fire and Rescue, I'll hear the Rescues call dispatch and ask for their run number and "Putnam on Med 4".

Why do they have to ask for the hospital to come up on Med 4? Or, are they just advising dispatch that the unit will be switching from primary to Med 4 to encode to the ER?

Someone that knows Putnam County well and their procedures may know the answer. But here is my interpretation.

When you hear: "R88, may I have my run number and Putnam on MED 4, Please?"

Sometimes Fire Control keys up and you may hear what sounds like a phone dialing in the background. I therefore don't know if Putnam is hitting a key on the MED 4 channel to signal that someone is calling them or if they are actually calling by landline to advise PCMC of an incoming radio call. It may also be that the radio is in a different room and they need someone at PCMC to answer it and thats why Fire Control calls them.

This is just my two cents worth but hope im correct.
