If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You know, I really get a kick out of all the people that come on a topic just to puff out their chest and say "That's illegal" "It's not type accepted for blah blah blah". Seriously, get a life. Stop worrying about someone's radio being type accepted or not. I personally couldn't care less. Here's an idea; worry about yourself and YOUR radios.

To the OP, a lot of the Motorola bubble pack radios are designed so that they can only talk to another Motorola bubble pack radio. Meaning a non-Moto radio can't be received by a Motorola radio. I remember reading something about this somewhere else. I bet if you were to try a Cobra or some other brand it would work just fine. That's what I use, and I've never had an issue.

That doesn't even make sense. Pretty sure the original post pertained to GMRS/FRS, not CB.

Seems to me like you should spend more time enjoying your radios and your hobby than trying to police what everyone else is doing.

It sure is a ME world

In the radio world, there is a lot more to it than ME. That ME attitude ruined CB radio for the majority of people. By encouraging breaking the rules on radios, someones life could be taken. There are reasons why we have rules. And reading some of the submissions here, one either has to question if they are trolling or really are that misinformed. From one that had a license to operate on a frequency, only to have an illegal unlicensed person with a radio interfering with my business, it is not funny.

I spoke to two people today that were using non-type accepted FPP radios today.....they thought they had found a quiet GMRS frequency.....462.950.....they were close enough and referencing landmarks, so I walked over and asked them what they were doing. When I pointed out that they were on one of our tactical channels, and had one transmit so they could hear it through my portable, they were shocked. They thought everything from 462.5 to 463 was GMRS.

You talk about not caring what other people do, well, if the person has no respect for the CFR's, what makes you think they have the appropriate knowledge of what constitutes GMRS spectrum, and further, what will limit them to that spectrum. I really wish they had told me GFY or GMAFB, as I would be providing links to news stories about them interfering, and their subsequent arrests. Strangely, when they told me they were on a GMRS frequency, I thought of this thread.

Oh puleezze! As if the FCC is going to go out looking for someone using these things to hunt with on the frequencies where a kagillion people are out there using them for everything under the sun. This includes a ton of kids playing hide and seek with them, annoying each other with call tones, etc. It's hard enough to get them to crack down on a business or school pirating the frequencies, sometimes using repeaters! I know this from FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE! The FCC couldn't give a rat's behind about someone like this guy, and if I were him I would do the same thing. I own Quansheng dual band transceivers that are capable of transmitting on GMRS, MURS, and pretty much anything else VHF or UHF if I so choose for that matter as they are wide open with a huge frequency range on both parts of the spectrum. If I decide use them for GMRS, I will do so without hesitation. I probably won't, as I have them strictly for possible future SHTF type situations (I'm far from the only one who has them for this reason). But I would feel no guilt using them in the GMRS WASTELAND if I felt the desire to.

The FCC allowed GMRS to become a wasteland, and now it is what it is, the modern day version of CB. Too late for them to do or say much about it now, especially as they are removing the license requirement and planning on restructuring the whole thing so that it truly is no more than the 2011 version of CB (stricter power limitations, no repeaters, etc.).

To the OP: Happy hunting, I hope you get your ChiCOM radios working.

Show me in writing where it says no repeaters ...none
of this has been approved as of now and it says nowhere in the NPRM where they are removing repeater or going to 2 watts on all radios

It is people like you who condone illegal operations that give everyone a bad name.

Hi Guys,

I currently picked up a Puxing Px-888 to go hunting with since my Motorola hand held didnt seem to get the range I wanted too so I decided to pick the PX-888 Up. Now I programmed the radio to the GRMS/FRS Freq of the Motorolas HH and my Main Problem is that I cant Transmit on the Puxing. I am able to receive (Talk, Etc) from my Motorola's but I cannot Transmit back on the Puxing. All I hear on the Motorola's when I transmit is static and the line opening and closing

My Spec are as Follow

Step 25K
Squelch 5
N/W- Narrow
Power - High

Any Help would be appreciated Guys!

A question that I have not saw anyone ask,do you have a GMRS license?

Where did you get your radio? I know my TYT won't TX on FRS/GMRS. I bought it from the radio store. If you bought it online and it got shipped you should be fine.

They ship them from Hong Kong, claiming them as "gifts" on the customs form. Not type accepted, and technically illegal to possess for anything other than ham use.

Actually I'm in college now. Thanks.

How does me not caring whether a radio is type accepted or not reflect badly on future generations? It's people like you that sit around all day and get in everyone else's business about what they are doing with their radios and then wonder why GMRS and HAM for that matter is a dying hobby. Hmm, let's see. It's not because of me. No, it's because younger generations see nothing but a bunch of old farts that have nothing better to do than sit around and whine about what everyone else is doing. Get off your high horses.

First of all im not a old fart,IMO the general attitude of the younger generation is " I don't know" or "I don't care" or "it works for me" or"it doesn't hurt anything" and all those attitudes are not what we need in younger folks who will one day take control of this country, wake up before 1pm get a clue what the real world is about and act in a less negative/liberal attitude, laws and rules are in place for a reason that is to have some control over things.

I care about both Ham and GMRS it people with no regard to rules and regulations that make the services die and anyone who condones such actions has just as much to do with helping kill he hobby as anyone else.

I am a licensed user of both Ham/GMRS so it makes it my business when someone openly admits/condones illegal operation for the reason it could jeopardize both services,if you think the FCC does not enforce illegal operation think again.

It is the self-righteous "all about me people" who ruin good radio services by their actions,I think we were better off when all services were regulated and had better enforcement but due to budget cuts it is not possible as it once was but enforcement still exists and the FCC has a enforcement web page if you care to look.

The FCC may be slow in acting but why chance getting caught the monetary fines imposed are not cheap.

Sorry HAM is NOT a dying hobby and keeping things legal [i know that small word keeps sneaking into everything doesn't it?] IS very important. Unfortunatly the kids won't understand about legalities[ and I doubt they ever will] since none have ever worked for anything hard in their live [had it all handed to em]

You may complain about us old geezers getting in everyone's business, BUT when you are using the wrong type of gear and get caught it makes ALL of us look bad in the eyes of the uneducated public. Since you feel it's a wink, wink, nudge, nudge, OK to break the laws it looks extremely poorly on YOU as well.
Since you studied hard for your Ham ticket and then shrug when someone gets on illegl radios, It tells a lot about YOUR morals as well as the ones using such unregulated equipment, basically making your licence [and mine] a joke to the outside world.

Since this is about GMRS and FRS rigs also You pay money for your license and still think it's ok knowing the fines you will face if caught .Is that 85 bucks or whatever worth the THOUSANDS in fines? To me it's not. I hope you have the money for it.

Blah blah blah. Just because someone is my elder doesn't mean they deserve my respect; you have to give it to get it from me. Stop acting like using a non type accepted radio is the same as murder.

I'm through trying to argue with someone that just makes blind assumptions towards the other person. I have no idea why you're trying to make personal attacks on me. I'm simply stating my opinion, but I guess acknowledging that some people actually have differing opinions is too much for some people. Just another reason ham is dying: close-mindedness.

Back to the OP's topic- the Puxing 888 should be able to be set up to work with the bubble pack radios. I don't personally own one (Puxing 888) but the idea that Motorola bubble-pack radios will only work with other Motorola bubble-pack radios is incorrect. If you are able to input the proper frequencies and privacy codes into a transceiver, they should be able to communicate with one another (FM carrier). I do not advocate such activity but I don't condemn anyone for doing so as I don't work for the FCC. I do possess both amateur and GMRS licenses as it is my personal decision to operate within within the rules as designated by the FCC for proper and legal operation.

I do believe that their is a fault of the system itself with regard to FRS/GMRS bubble- pack radios...THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN CERTIFIED FOR OPERATION BY THE FCC. The reality is, most individuals are not going to shell out 85 bucks to use a radio that they have in hand which works marginally well at best....people are going to use the GMRS channels since they have capacity for greater range. FRS radios should have been FRS ONLY with say 2 watts- something useable (akin to MURS) and leave GMRS alone...but too late as they say "the horse has left the barn...but then, if they did as I described above, there wouldn't be the banter that exists on this forum with regard to the legality of GMRS radios, licensing,etc....cheers!

I'm 43, so I'm not that much of an elder, and I noticed that you haven't commented on my post above, where someone using similar radios (They were Wouxuns), thinking they were on a GMRS frequency were actually using MED-9, which is a tactical operations frequency for my department. That department is Boston EMS, so it is quite possible that the interference could result in loss of life. The fact is you have no respect for the law, nor do you have any for those who do respect the law.
