• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok. So I have an SVR-250, VHF with tight reject filter 1602 and pass filter 1604. I have the cable for use with the XG100M/CH100. Does anyone have the pinout for the FY-4 programming cable? It’s a db9 to rj11 cable for programming the unit. Also, is anyone familiar with the SVR250CPS? Is it available from Pyramid? Is it expensive? I’m excited to get this unit set up for SAR missions and the programming is the last piece of the puzzle.

Thanks for reading!

Go to the Pyramid website and download the service manual. Loads of information and it shows the programming port on the schematic. You can also search a local dealer to get the software from.

Thanks! I have read through the service manual and it is indeed very useful! I was about to download the data sheet for the component that the rj11 connects to on the schematic as there is no cable pinout for the programming cable listed anywhere, but someone posted a pinout on another forum.

I’ll give a dealer a call and see if I can get the software. It’s the last piece of this puzzle!

Regards,
B

So I hate to drag up an old thread but how are you liking the SVR-250 with the Unity mobile? Was it plug and play with the cable?

It all works as expected/advertised. I had to move some jumpers (solder particular sets of pads on the PCB) to set it all up for the Unity. I think it was used with a Moto previously. But ya, it works great and a cable would be easy to make if you can’t find an OEM one. I have a TPL amp that could boost the 2W out of the pyramid, but I haven’t messed with that yet.

I’m actually thinking about getting another one in a different band just for more interop, but I’m also considering just tying two of my 100Ms together and making an all-band patch. The SVR250 really is great, especially for the used price, but it would be absolutely awesome to be able to do P25C with AES on input and output and on any band.

Um. If you need an amp, you're doing something wrong.
Not when the use case is filling a gap in coverage for SAR teams in remote areas… I’m not at a 10,000sqft crime scene. I’m covering 10sqmi, so two watts isn’t gonna get where we need to go. Now, if power was on par with a 5-6W portable, then fine, but it’s not, so the amp will take 1W from the SVR and boost to 10W, then factor in losses through the cavity filters and I’m hitting right around 6-7W…

I think you're better off with a higher gain antenna and maybe even raising the antenna on some sort of a mast. Your portable radios probably aren't actually putting out a 5W ERP unless they are VHF with a 12+ inch long antenna.

I'd only try the amp if you've already done this and still have problems hearing the SVR250 output, but not problems getting into it.

@BMDhow does it work as far as activating it? From the touch screen?

I have a 700mhz SVR-P250 on the shelf I haven't done anything with yet.
