Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a couple of Quansheng UV K6's that I've been playing with and testing. So far, so good (for a CCR). I do like the USB-C charge port.

Previously, I've always started with a prebuilt codeplug template based on the first read of the radio with some customized settings. I just added my frequency/channel info, plus a date code and uploaded it to the radio without issue.

Yesterday, I started with a completely blank codeplug from CHIRP, added the frequencies/channels and uploaded it to the radio which had stock firmware. When I keyed the radio, I noticed it was giving a PTT ID on every channel, yet PTT ID was never enabled on the radio and there's not a column on the CHIRP grid for PTT ID.

I "read" the radio in CHIRP (and on the Quansheng CPS, too) and couldn't find any instance of PTT ID being enabled. When I looked at the radio's internal "settings" menu, PTT ID was "on". RTFM-ing the laughably translated manual indicated that PTT ID was on a per-channel basis and there was no global switch. To manually enable/disable it, one has to enable/disable that particular setting, then manually save that channel.

So I uploaded the previous codeplug that didn't have PTT ID enabled and all channels were normal xmit.

Next, I opened my prebuilt codeplug template and cut and pasted the channels from the codeplug with PTT ID, uploaded it to the radio and all channels behaved normally.

I have no explanation as to what caused PTT ID to enable. I've programmed other CCR's from blank CHIRP codeplugs and never had this issue. I'll probably send a bug report to the CHIRP folks, too.

I hope you have better luck fixing it than I did. I never could get it to turn off. I was still
Under 30days with Amazon so…….off it went and got a replacement. I ended up downloading the Quansheng programming software. Every time you enter a new channel a dedicated screen comes up for programming the channel to include weather or not you want a PTT ID on the channel. I personally don’t play with the Quanshengs on CHIRP anymore.

The solution that worked for me was to use the programming template I made from the first read of the radio, with a few adjustments in the radio setting menu (TOT time, and startup message). All previous loads based on this template worked fine without the PTT ID.

I created the programming frequency grid in a blank incarnation of CHIRP, the copied/paste into the frequency/channel grid on the template.
The radio worked normally w/o the PTT ID.
