To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is it possible yo program a VHF Quantar repeater to allow ASTRO Voice from a XTS 5000 to pass through it? The system is Conventional and the station type is "ASTRO CAI CAPABLE'. Has a 4 wire wireline set to full duplex, and Multi-coded squelch is MULTI-NAC. Wireline interface is "V.24 HYBIRD".

Yes. If its already programmed for multi NAC it may be ready to go.

Its currently programmed with a PL of 156.7 in the access code table and has a MULTI-NAC Table with NAC/293 in the first slot. Has 4 more code listed under that. Not sure how to program it to pass the digital signal. I changed the XTL to ASTRO and it would not pass through.

I don't have the software running in front of me but on one of the setup pages you can select a dual mode, forget what they call it. Right now it may say analog only or something similar.

Under “Channel Information”, Modulation Type.

I think I got it, had to change to CSQ to get the ASTRO to work. Seems to be working. I have some radios that are digital capable and a few that are not. I guess I would need to program a digital channel and an analog channel in the repeater so all will work.

I have a VHF Quantar that I just purchased, worked fine for a couple of days. Now when you key the radio I get a "PA LOW" light and a humming sound from the speaker. This started after I installed the duplex-er. Could this be the problem or is more likely the pa board?

Disconnect the duplexer. Connect the transmitter to a wattmeter and dummy load. Then you will have your answer.

Its only doing about 18 watts. I have an external amp that was in use in the old radio. Would it be possible to route the power through it or should I look for a replacement PA board?

Is that measured into a load without the duplexer? Is it a 110w PA or 25w PA? What is the power set for in the software? Did you do a PA power cal?

I have a quantar set in the mixed mode. When I key up analog radios, everything looks and sounds fine. But When I key up a radio that X-mits in "ASTRO", I get a bussing sound out of the quantar speaker but the signal passes through to the other radios fine. No Yellow or red lights, everything seems to be fine. Is this sound normal when X-Mitting with a ASTRO radio?

A Quantar can’t decode P25, it just passes the raw audio. So yes it’s normal.

You could always find a DIU3000 and decode it that way. :p

They quantar is very new to me and I have a lot to learn. Still in the early learning stages. I had a PA LOW problem that turned out to be a bad wire and the radio was making that same sound. But the PA LOW light does not light up anymore now that I replaced the wire and I am back to full power. Thanks for your help.
