I live in Whitestone/Flushing Queens in New York and was wondering if anyone else in my area or surrounding area has heard any military air comm on a regular basis. I have scanned the bands for weeks on end and haven't heard anything.

Search range 1: 225 - 275 MHz
Search range 2: 275 - 325 MHz
Search range 3: 325 - 380 MHz

I am using a disscone antenna on a bct15x. Is my area dead for military comm?

Thanks
Mike

You should at least hear JFK simulcasting ATC on its UHF channels. There are air bases and other military airspace fairly close by, too.

Are you searching in AM mode?

Not neccicarly. If I am not mistaken, any tower MUST have UHF frequencies. They may never (the one at the airport I fly at) handle any military traffic, but they still simalcast on them. 90% of the time on ARTCC frequencies are broadcasted from the same location. Rarely do the UHF and VHF broadcast from different locations. But it is possible!
