I haven't been up to West Orange in a few years, but this is what I remember from my last visit:

There were four (4) government owned towers when I was there last.

A tower owned/operated by the State of NJ located just east of the big tower at 416 Eagle Rock Avenue - reportedly had NJ Transit and NJSP 800MHz trunked equipment on it at the time. It was right behind a diner; not sure if that diner still exists.

In the Eagle Rock County Reservation there were two (2) towers. A short one up by the High Law Pavilion, and a tall one back in the woods. The short one is owned by the County of Essex, I think that the tall one is jointly owned by the County and the State. I think NJICS runs from the tall tower. Some US Government stuff up there too along with Essex County's equipment. Short tower had some VHF equipment on it and was also home to the Essex County Mutual Aid Fire Channel at the time. Again, this was years ago.

The fourth government owned tower was south of Route 280 and north of Mt. Pleasant Avenue, near Mt. Fuji restaurant. It was directly adjacent to a water tank; the tower was owned by the Township of West Orange and that's where their EDACS system was/is.

Some governmental agencies made use of the commercial sites on top of the hill for reasons unknown. PSE&G let(s) an agency use their tower, American Tower Company had/has some equipment at their site, and the old Warner Communications site down where WFME was/WFMU is had some boxes there.

yes was curious. high ground that area prospect ave. in area towing often. great for towers! im guessing most signals would come from this area? newark is much lower elevation, this is first hill/mountain from newark pointing/traveling east on rt280 which stretches across thru livingston to summit. im about 7 miles away from towers maybe.

City of Orange also had/has their UHF PD repeater up near Mt. Fuji. Not sure if it is still there.

Everything you can think of is on the County Tower at 416 Eagle Rock (Sheriff, Prosecutor, Fire MAC, OEM, etc). They may share the shame address, you’ll have to check the tower ID but there are two there. Also check Marcella Ave as there are 3-4 towers there as well). Lots of State, local, Fed, Ham, GMRS, utilities, commercial such as Mic Talk now part of OneVoice...you name it, it’s there on one of those. Great site by the way.

416 Eagle Rock Ave is the address of the commercial tower owned by American Tower, Inc. It was built in the 1970's by Adam Sadlon to house the transmitter and antenna for channel 68 TV. Following the construction of the tall Essex County tower sometime in the late 1990's or early 2000's,, most (if not all) governmental agencies moved off of this tower.

The tall Essex County owned tower is listed in FCC records as having an address of "Eagle Rock Reservation, West Orange, NJ," which is not the same address as the commercially owned tower. NJICS is believed to use this site.

The short Essex County owned tower is listed in FCC records as having an address of "Eagle Rock Casino, Eagle Rock Reservation, West Orange, NJ.'

NJ Transit uses a 225 foot tower in West Orange that's located south and east of 416 Eagle Rock Avenue, behind the Chit Chat Diner. Property tax records show the property is owned by the NJDOT, no address listed, block 111, lot 1.10 in the Township of West Orange. NJSP was on this tower at the inception of their 800 MHz trunked system, but has since relocated to the NJ Public Broadcasting Authority tower in Little Falls (some refer to it as Montclair).

I think the fed stuff was up on one behind 10 Marcella Ave. There was 2 over at 12 Marcella Ave also if you want search those, mostly commercial I believe. As Railtrailbiker stated, the County stuff is up on up the tall tower at the Lat/Long that Rock Radio posted.

In the late 1970's and early 1980's, US Treasury had a VHF repeater at 416 Eagle Rock that I used to see whenever I visited the site to do work. Post 9/11 I'm pretty sure that all of the US Government repeaters are now located at the Essex County tall tower site, which is much more secure than any commercial site.
