Hello all, recently purchased and received the BCD536HP. Downloaded the PC programming to set it up and loaded all of the areas into the unit that I want to monitor. I can hear everything I have loaded into the unit with no issues except Genesee Co Sheriffs (NY). It doesn’t look like it is encrypted and confirmed with my wife (GCSO 911 dispatcher) that it isn’t.

I attached photos of the frequencies and what I’m looking at listening to. Especially when the wife is working.

Do you have the corresponding services turned on? Recheck the avoids on all three levels for the agency, meaning System, Department and all channels or TG’s.

There aren’t any avoids setup in Sentinel or the actual unit. I have noticed it says ID Scanning when it is on the Genesee/Orleans County channels compared to regular Scanning and it still doesn’t listen to them. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Double check your service types.

When shipped, the default public safety service types that are enabled are the ones labeled as Dispatch (Law Dispatch, Fire Dispatch, EMS Dispatch, and Multi-Dispatch). Also enable the Tac and Talk types for those (Law Talk, Fire Tac, etc). The dispatch types are also the only ones enabled when Sentinel is first installed. Looking at the Fire/EMS talkgroups on your system, I see one tagged as Fire Dispatch. Most rest are labeled as Fire or EMS Tac, with the last one labeled as Hospital.

For the Sheriff's office, I see only one 'Dispatch' talkgroup, with another labeled as Talk, plus a couple of "Corrections" TGIDs. I suspect that there may be one or more additional S.O. related talkgroups that are not listed. Maybe no one has found them, or if they did, they were not submitted to the database. I would suggest that you switch that system from ID Scan to ID Search. That would let you find any other talkgroups not in the database. For TGIDs that are programmed, you'll see the text tag you have entered. If it is a 'new' talkgroup (not programmed), you would only see the talkgroup ID, no text tag.

Did you append the system from the database, or did you manually create all, or at least part of it, manually? If you create a trunked system site or department manually, unless you also manually add location details, or else the scanner will ignore those sites or departments as "out of range" if using location control. If you appended the system, then location would have automatically been included.

Ok to bring back this thread, I recently bought an SDS 100, nice scanner in my opinion. Anyways I have managed to set many systems up in Sentinel and continue to tweak them.
My problem is Genesee County. I have set them up as I have the other systems I have also appended Batavia FD to the list.

The only thing I hear are Fire Dispatch/EMS and EMS Battalion. I have not heard Batavia Fire or any surrounding fire companies.

Any thoughts? Anything Special?

Regards
