    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Question about ISSI gateways on P25

Hi sysadmins,

Please school me on what is probably a really basic question:

If two systems are linked via an ISSI gateway, will it show up on CC decoders in the "peers" or neighbors info, as in site xyz on system 1 is a peer of site abc on system 2?

In Moto stuff, it's configured as a "Foreign System". The foreign system gets included in the matrix of neighbor sites, and the sites of the foreign system will be listed as neighbors to sites on the home system exactly as you describe. As example, system BEE00-A2E Zone 1 Site 2 might report the following neighbor list over the air:
BEE00-A2E - 1 - 1
BEE00-8E2 - 1 - 1
BEE00-A2E - 1 - 3
BEE00-A2E - 3 - 5
91FE2-003 - 1 - 2


Not really that basic a subject, though that particular answer is straightforward. ISSI is clunky and complicated, and Motorola makes it doubly so when it comes to configuration and use.

Thanks folks. Haven't seen anything yet on a system I know is getting some ISSI testing going on, but maybe I'm not looking on the right sites.

The Kansas City MARRS system is connected with Missouri's Moswin system via ISSI.

The interconnected sites are broadcasting packets that are (so far) unknown to Pro96Com.

To me, Opcode 33 appears to be the Frequency Identifier table for the adjacent system:

We are testing (and utilizing) ISSI automatic roaming on our system. Select talk groups have to be provisioned in the foreign systems to allow roaming. On our subscribers, one has to then specify the "home" (destination) of each and every TG as far as what system/WACN.

It works VERY well. The subscriber may not even be aware he/she is on a foreign system with automatic ISSI, unless they look at their display for the roaming indicator and incoming caller ID (which will show the origin of an individual ID predicated by the foreign system/WACN).
