Apologies if this belongs in the antenna/coax forum
if so please move.

Got my HamItUp HF Board today,

Im planning on building an SDR box
and I need to make Jumpers to connect
them.

Im thinking of removing the SMA's and soldering
direct to the PCB.Not a big deal.

Ive got 75ohm mil-spec teflon RG179
and also a generic brand 50ohm RG174

Which is going to be better suited to connect
the devices?

and also,a cohort recomended looping the cable
through on of these(see pic) to reduce noise..
coax is the 75ohm/179

any merit?

In advance,Thanks! Pics will follow!

If you Google sdr/upconverter in a box (I think) it should bring up the blog on this. Guy has pic's of the install. I just did one with mine but the wire length is so small I didn't worry about it. I also used a plastic box instead of metal. If I get a moment, I'll take a few pic's. And I put the ferri bead at the usb end where it goes into the pc.

Looks like this forum is just what I've been looking for...I was just thinking about making a box like this. I also want to have it running off of a Raspberry Pi which will also be in the box and probably a portable touch screen display. Add a battery and you have a highly portable, self contained SDR monitor.

KC3AOL..

Id love to see that.
Even better,a nice write up.
Im finishing the build on my SDR box,but its a
Dumb box for now, just the boards mounted and
a USB port in the rear.

Ill up the pics today.

Id love to figure out the self contained with the
display option. But Im not that savvy..LOL...But
i can follow directions!

Thinking it my be time to start a SDR Builders thread.

FOXTAIL..

Thanks for the search info.
Other hurtles im looking at is the shielding issue.
If it is necessary..and the best way to do it..

thinking i may use some copper clad breadboard.
easy to drill and weld together.

not sure yet..
to add...

Just took a look,
Curious if having the HF board and the RTL board
together creates any problems,Ive been under the
impression the boards should be separate( shielded
from one another)..

Nice,,
a couple Q's/
the holes drilled,Ventilation?
are there mounting posts in the box,or
did you make risers?

Nice n clean!..Love it mate!

Oh,one last thing,,Feet!
I noticed the metal box i got was sliding
about the table,home improvement stores
sell rubber feet.they raise the box up a bit
and help keep it planted.

Cheers!

I put holes in just incase. It did get a little warm without the holes. No feet, yet. I do have some rubber feet here someplace to mount when I find them. I also used two stand offs that were drilled from the bottom to hold the up converter board. All in all it works very good. I do still need to setup my antenna's. Right now I 'm using a long wire.
