Does anybody know if Kent County police or public services use trunked system? I tried to look it up but didn't come up with anything.

As of this time, no. All Law enforcement in Kent county except for the State Police that for the most part work on the expressways are not on a trunked system.

There is talks about Kent county with the new dispatch system going to a trunked system, but no one knows 100% if that would be the MPSCS system, or if they would go to their own system like a EDAC which Allegan and Ingham county has.

Good news is for now, you can get a $100 scanner and listen to Kent county and not have to pay $400 for a digital scanner.

Yea, i get them too but they're not trunked, right? And how do you tell the difference between a trunked and conventional frequency?

Not trunked. Check the Wiki here on trunked systems and it will explain how they work.

Use the 'search' link up top, plenty of discussion on that in the past here.

I have been watching the commission meeting notes and have not seen anything yet.
Also been watching the FCC website and nothing there as well.

Wow, that's interesting. I was wondering if i should invest in a digital one for Kent County here but undecided, don't know if i should or just wait til the price comes down a little bit on those.

Unless you listen to the state police on the freeways I would wait. For the most part, that is the only digital talk you are going to get. If you want to get a head of the game and used to a digital new scanner and have the money than I would say go for it.
f course, going for a Uniden or RS/GRE will be a big thing to think of. :)

What about Lansing area (like Eaton county), i went through the database on here and seem like they're still on convention but when i went there last time to visit a friend, i couldn't hear anything on my scanner?

Not sure what you are asking about, Kent Co or Lansing area? Ingham and Clinton Co have trunked systems, Eaton is conventional.
