So I found the above site on the wiki and have been having alot of fun listening and learning - learning how to tune into various types of signals, how to visually recognize different signals, and more.

What I don't understand is why 90% of the transmissions there are contest transmissions. I don't usually hear people just talking. Rather, I hear countless contest calls.

I guess I was curious why this is so. I guess I expected a greater variety of transmissions. Even the contests are interesting to listen to, but surely there's more?

Thanks!

That site mostly covers the ham radio bands, which unfortunately is not the most interesting thing to listen to. As for the contest you hearing the website contesting.com site shows it as the CQ World Wide WPX Contest. CQ World Wide WPX Contest - Home

It's interesting that most of the contest calls were just one the weekend. They seem to subside during the week. In the week, there seems to be a few more interesting things to listen to.

Can't change the receiver frequency? I find that a bit odd...

You can change the freqs on the radio link I posted. It's all pretty interesting. I have tried a number of other tuneable sites, and http://etgd2.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ seems to be the most fun as it's so visual.

WPX World Wide? Aw! I missed it! You can have lots of fun if you've got a friend with a cool call.
