• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

They Are Not Fakes!

Hello Jay!
I am looking to get a few of these myself. The GP380 is an export radio. They are still being sold outside of the US, take a look:
Motorola GP380 Handheld Transceiver
From what I have read, they are pretty good radios. They are going for peanuts on ebay and some WITH cables and software. here is a link to the specs.and more information:
http://www.comm-spec.com/pdfs/radios/Motorola-GP380-VHF-UHF-4-5Watts-100071.pdf
The one thing that is a downside is the step size. It starts at 12.5 Khz. This would be an isssue with the newer 6.25 Khz. frequencies.
I also do not believe it will do DPL, only PL.

Thanks for the info. Tell me, is the software windows based? Do you need a RIB or is it a ribless programming thing? I was also wondering how many zones there are. I know it is capable of 255 channels.

I assume this is true, but has anyone tried using the remote speaker mic's with antennas on them. What is the issue with the charger?

Has anyone had problems with the charger? I've had mine for about 8 months and the charger has crapped out on me. Any ideas?

It will do both PL &DPL, I have both and like my radios, just be careful with the chargers.
What was your problem with the charger. Mine would charge for like 20 minutes then quit now it won't even start to charge. I know it is not the battery because I've tried 3 different batteries with the same result. I've seen a thread on here mentioning that you should buy a radio shack adapt a plug but I cannot seem to locate that thread.

If I remember they overheated and melted, I just bought new HT1250 chargers on e-bay and they have worked fine, by the way I had both radios configured and recased as HT1250 and I am very satisfied now
