So I finally decided to program my scanner using the PC as opposed to manually. Purchased the USB serial adapter , somehow found the right driver online ( my laptop does not have a disk drive so I couldn't use the CD that came with the adapter ) and I was on my merry way. Very neat -- should have done it right off the bat but I am glad I learned how to manually program as well.
Anyway, one of the systems that I uploaded from the Radio Reference database is Nassau County Public Safety EDACS and I have a question:

Why does the Site name default to "Simulcast" -- what does that mean? I know I can edit it, but was curious why it defaults to that name.

Thank you.

If you have your laptop on a network, you could share the cd drive on a pc that has a working cd drive. then on the laptop, go in the my network places and find the shared cd drive drive and run the driver cd etc.
I have an older laptop and its either floppy or cd so if I need one or the other I just share them. Also you could put the cd in a networked pc create a new folder, copy the contents of the cd into that , and then share it..

My "main" computer is a Mac and I haven't set it up for Windows compatibilty as others on this site have. But since I was able to find the driver online and download it to the laptop that I have, I was OK.
Last night I cleaned up the "quick key" set-up and renamed some of the systems/sites/groups and I am enjoying this scanner even more.

Using the pc software is amazing. But knowing how to do it manually is good also. I recently went to Atlantic City and pre programed everything i wanted to hear. I brought my laptop with everything I would need already stored on it cause they charge, in my opinion, too much for wi fi. Luckily I did not even need the laptop lol

Does the Nassau County EDACS system have good coverage throughout the county? It only looks like they have 5 sites.

I live in east farmingdale and can say that I do get a good control channel signal, but some talk groups come in scratchy. when I sleep out, near tanger in deer park, I am barely pick them up. In Nassau however, around levittown everything sounds pretty good. Out in
