anything you could possibly think of...... some have 6-2, 2-10, 10-6, some have 7-3, 3-11, 11-7, some 7a-7p, some 7:30-3:30, 3:30-11:30, 11:30-7:30, etc etc etc....... then we'll move on to 5 on 2 off, 5 on 3 off (paramus)..... steady 6 on, 3 off (teaneck)....... or the pittman (sp?) which is the 12 hr shifts where u end up w/ every other wknd off and do about 4 on, 3 off, 4 on, 4 off....... some even have a 10 hr shift (not so sure how that one works though)

as u can see, there is no norm by any means

Another common variation of shifts is this:

Over a two week period:

Day (0600-1800) and Night (1800-0600)
Squad A: Mon D, Tues D, Fri D, Sat D, Sun D, Wed D, Thurs D
Squad B: Mon N, Tues N, Fri N, Sat N, Sun N, Wed N, Thurs N
Squad C: Wed D, Thurs D, Mon D, Tues D, Fri D, Sat D, Sun D
Squad D: Wed N, Thurs N, Mon N, Tues N, Fri N, Sat N, Sun N

In effect, it's two days on, two days off, weekend on, two days off, two days on, weekend off. Two weeks later, squads that were working day tours will work night tours, and vice versa.
