Hi,

I have one question about the rebanding of systems, mainly here in Illinois (starcom21) but also in general.

I see about using custom frequencies and such, once a system is rebanded wouldn't it be just as effective to re-download the system (thereby getting all the newest channels and ID's) using a software of choice than to go in and manually change things around?

Or am I really missing the boat here?

anyone with a more definitive answer by chance? thanks

It might be easier to wait for the RR database to be updated with the most current data and then download the new data into the scanner but, that would mean "down time" waiting for updated frequencies to be submitted and confirmed.

When a TRS re-bands; you only need to program in the new frequencies (usually talkgroups remain essentially unchanged) and select the appropriate custom band plan that you should have set up in your scanner already.

In fact... given the size of the XT memory... you could get everything set up and programmed in advance of the re-banding and when those systems "pull the trigger", just upload your pre-planned "new system" in place of the current one. No down time.....

The rebanding on StarCom21 shouldn't be the issue with it being P25 unless your having problem with the 700MHz towers?

As for the updates, that system has added new towers and there are changes and additions all the time. It would be helpful to reload the system frequently.

I'm not so sure I have a custom band plan installed at all?

I've got some 11,19,13, and 12 in there now, but still trying to figure out the best way to set them up, as it is now I'm pretty sure it's pretty inefficient.

There are NO custom settings to be used in Starcom, you just go in the memory and reduce the freqys by 15mgz and no other changes are or will be needed....About 60% of the ILL-Starcom licenses have appeared on the ill-midwest grants in the past two weeks....The Starcom radios will start with all freqys entered then after testing the 866-868 freqys will be flash deleted...This is a P25 9600 baud system and custom settings are only needed in the Motorola TYPE11 3600 baud systems....My city has just finished with its rebanding of 800mgz radios and will soon be implementing ...

Set them up as far as groups? If you use FreeSCAN you can adjust them as you like or let the program import them as they are in the Radioreference database.

StarCom21 is P25, so all you need to do is change the frequency of the control channel (if needed), or add new ones, and it should work fine.
