Hi folks I have been away from scanning for a long time. My mother in law used to use her scanner quite a bit but has since stopped since the police have went encrypted.

She wants me to sell her scanner but I have no idea how much I should ask for it. I am sure there are better scanners out there but I have no clue how much to ask for it.

I mostly see BCD996P2 or XT's listed. Any insight appreciated. Thanks.

The scanner is mint condition with the original box and manual.

I would imagine about US$150 or about C$200 would be the going rate for the 996T. It has limitations on trunking of course (no Phase 2, DMR, NXDN) and even on a Phase 1 P25 system it can only handle 1 site per system so you would have to program multiple systems for a networked one.

Other than that it is basically a BCT15 with P25. Since Timmins uses DMR for some of the city services it is pretty much just a fire scanner for you these days.

Actually, the 996T can handle multiple sites in a system. The hand-held 396T cannot, and would require multiple 1-site systems to cover a system with one or more sites.

That's right, I conflated the two.

I have a 996T, got it in 2008. I still use it for P25 Phase 1 communications and since SC is transitioning to Phase 2, I will use it for analog, especially military, aircraft and other non-digital transmissions. It really excels when programmed for analog and seems to filter out most of the digital motorboat sounds during ducting. I don't plan on retiring it just yet.

One of the things I have learned is that if you want quick reception you have to program all the analog on one system. That way it doesn't go from one to another taking its time to pull in reception. Just let it scan one system programmed for analog. Hope I'm clear.
