Hello, I am wanting to know if anyone here has an answer to this question:
On Leslie County EOC / E-911 (155.430) KNEN590, I am receiving skip fairly often!
It is usually a female dispatcher naming off addresses. Last night, it mentioned 16th street.
But, I am not at all sure where it's coming from. So, my question is, does anyone have any ideas on where this could be coming from OR how i could track it down (atleast generally)?
Thanks in advance!

Do you have a PL/DPL tone for the "skip?" That can help narrow down what it may be. Also listen for any call signs broadcast over the air (both in voice and morse). Sometimes the best way to find out is to listen for the address of a call and plug it into a Google search. 16th St is fairly common but if you can get cross streets that can help as well if they don't give a town name on the dispatch.

Being around Pineville KY, are you on a hill?

You could be hearing something from 3 different states (KY, TN, VA).

Grabbing a RX tone would help narrow it down a little. Also, like the previous poster, see about a cross street, or search the exact addresses. Having the exact house number could narrow it down a little since not every 16th street has a 131, or 2132, etc.

Next time I'm home in London, I'll see if I can hear anything on this frequency.

Having a PL tone set isn't a guarantee of eliminating skip. Of the several analog frequencies in my scanners with PL tones set, there are a few that I still occasionally receive skip on...because the distant stations are using the same PL tones. This seldom bothers me as I enjoy hearing distant stuff, just saying that setting a PL for those freqs may not guarantee that you hear only the local stuff you are after.

Actually, I live in Beverly, KY. Pineville is my closest town. I live in a valley!

Being this is High Band it is more of a duct. Usually ducts are north south. We get a nice east west north south over the Long Island sound. On med 10 i can hear red bank nj here in Ct in the mobile.
Med 10 and 9 are good places to listen for a duct
