I have been doing research on potential scanners to buy and I am interested in the IC-R6. I know it does not cover digital or trunking.

From some of my research I found a past post on the frequency range in particular the 800 MHZ. It was stated that the 800 MHZ is blocked and not just the cellular channels. I downloaded the manual tonight and got the following specs 0.100–821.995, 851.000–866.995, 896.000–1309.995

Besides missing the cellular channels (which I am not worried about) what else would I be missing from these ranges that are blocked 821.995 to 851.000 & 866.995 to 896.000?

Should I buy the UK version?

Thanks for any info

I don't have the R6, but I do have the R5 which the R6 replaced. There is no 800 Mhz radio in my area. The frequency coverage in the 800 Mhz range appears to be the same as on my R5. I'm not sure about the R6 but on the R5 and others of that vintage Icom blocked several other frequency ranges which were apparently multiples or Harmonics of the Cell Phone Freqs. There is not a lot of frequencies in the 800 Mhz range which aren't trunked. Even up here in northern Maine there is no more Analog Cell Phones in use.

As far as should you buy a UK version, If the USA version and the UK version cost the same I probably would go for the UK version but I wouldn't pay a premium for the UK one.

You are asking the right questions. I hope that someone who owns the R6 can provide more information for you.
