Good evening, everyone!

I am extremely sorry about asking a question, which I am sure has been asked elsewhere.

On many Motorola trunked radio systems in the RadioReference system, there is an "CT:" parameter listed.

What does this parameter stand for and represent?

Thanks,

George B.

CTCSS. Continous tone coded squelch system or PL Tone the common term. The PL Tone is a regestered trade mark of Motorola and cant be used by others. PL is a subaudible tone below your hearing level but the radio can hear it. Comes on when mic button is pressed. It opens the squelch on all radios programmed for that tone. If you have 3 fire depts that use the same freq and one is 30miles north of you and the other two are 10 and 15 miles apart in the other direction you will hear all three without PL. Enter the PL for the one you want to hear and you never hear the other two. Digital PL works the same way.

Good morning, bassmkenk2508!

Thanks for the reply and reference! As is the case with noobs like me, I just didn't search hard enough!

I suspected that the CT had to do with the "affiliation" process, but wasn't sure.

Is the number, xx.xx, representative of a tone frequency in Hz, then? Or does the . represent some sort of seperator, indicating two different tones?

Thanks, again!

As NeFire242 says, your scanner doesn't need (or use it); however, for your general knowledge consider the following.

The connect tone (CT) indeed is necessary for real radios to both affiliate and communicate on a Moto trunked system. There is also a disconnect tone. Both are sub-audible and we don't show the disconnect tone in the DB. Interestingly enough, there are scanners out there that use the disconnect tone. Depending on the model you may have one that asks something like "Set End Code" and can usually choose to Ignore it or not.

Happy Scanning!
