If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi!

Well, I'm new in this forum, I read many very useful threads here, so at first thanks for sharing.

I'm a question about my UV5R (Ver BFB297).

I read in some sites that when TDR (menu 7) is ON, the radio should Tx on the last A or B that received transmissions, so to avoid that, we can set a fixed A or B for our Tx in menu 34 TDR-AB.

...well...mine doesn't keep in the last A/B that received...always remain in the one I select....either if I set OFF - A or B in menu 34. No matter what menu 34 option, always transmit in the one I select with the A/B key.

Is that a change in BFB297 or a bug?

Also I take advantage of my post to ask to be sure....the "recovery" images to reset my version are these?
- BFB297 Reset.img
- BFB297(factory).img
...both downloaded from: Index of /uv5r/programming/CHIRPrecovery

Are them the correct?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't find the edit post option, but I wish to add this info:

Chirp says that my firmware is 1FB297 - HN5RV01, but the radio (power on+3) says: BFB297.

;) Thanks

BFB297 probably isn't the real firmware version.
You need to use Chirp to view it.
Go to Settings/Other Settings read the version shown in Firmware Message 1.

If you load an image from a different firmware version in the radio you can mess it up.

In the past several years there have been several firmware changes that affect how the TDR-AB function works. There is no way to fix that and no way to upgrade or change the firmware.

Hi Tom, thanks for your response.

Chirp confirms that my firmware is: (line1) HN5RV01 and (line2) 1FB297

Having in mind that the radio says BFB297, should I have for backup purposes the ones listed in kc9hi site? (he only has BFB297)

I can't find the HN5RV01-1FB297.img file.

Thanks again.

Marcelo
