Question bout scanning of GRE PSR-500

I have a PSR-500 and this device after a few days loses its ability to lock on to traffic while scanning. It shows its scanning but doesn't lock on to anything. I though it could be a speaker issue or low battery etc...but all is that is good.
I live in Springfield Mo and have good signal strength and get good reception on an older scanner. I use and have programmed the scanner with ARC500 software. I can re-program and mess with it and will work for a day or two and then just stop hearing trafficagain??

One suggestion - If monitoring a trunked system, the system could be alternating control channels, which includes one or more that you do not have programmed into your scanner. Make sure all of the frequencies listed in the database for that system are programmed.
