question for north dakota frequencies

i was just wondering if there are any digital police channels in north dakota yet. I was looking into getting a scanner and dont know if i need to go digital. I glanced into a patrol car and saw that the radio was motorola, but what generation i dont know. Any thoughts? My guess is that most are still picked up conventionally or with the trunk tracking.

It's my understanding that they do plan to go digital in the future, but a lack of monetary funding is the key issue. Apparently, they really like what their sister state to the south did with their new trunked radio system, and this may serve as a prototype for their future communications needs.

If you can afford a digital scanner, by all means please purchase one. This way when the state makes the switchover, your radio won't suddenly become obsolete overnight. However, if budget concerns are an issue at this time, then buy an inexpensive but good quality scanner, then upgrade when they migrate to the new digital system.

i can't see the state of nd going digital anytime soon, mostly because of state radio. State Radio dispatches for alot of the small towns and even some county's in the state on a 6 channel 35 tower system. most of these towns and county's wouldn't be able to afford the change. That being said the cities of fargo, bismark, and minot and thier respective county's may decide to on their own. Grand Forks as well, although The city of Grand Forks already operates on a 800 mhz trunking system leased through Stones mobile radio. i would say that you would be find with a good trunking scanner, (big pause) for now that is.

There would be little cost to the smaller towns and counties if they moved to a VHF Mixed Mode system. That way as entities get enough money, they can move from analog to digital.
