Question for R1500 owners

I'm strongly considering this radio but I'm curious how functional the control head is.

Is it worth the extra bucks over the PCR1500?

Am I correct in thinking that the specs and performance are the same with the control head being the only difference?

I bought the r-1500.
The performance is exactly the same between the R and PCR. I paid the EXTRA bucks for the control head because I do at time transport the unit.

If you have no intentions of using the unit away from the PC then save yourself the extra coins.

When using it with the control head you need to plan ahead and know the limitations when using it. In my opionion, the control head was an afterthought.. However, it does allow basic operation away from the PC.

For me I don't like knowing that without the PC I am not able to operate.
