My job forces a 0303 alarm. Are the three extra minutes necessary? Spoiler alert: yes, yes they are.

Anyway… weird question for the group and huge thanks in advance if you’ve nailed this one down and can explain.
Every weekday morning at almost exactly 0430 on Norcom Police Tac 11 (TG: 21328) I s this transmission “They must be close, I’m hearing chatter on the CB”.

Sometimes there is an acknowledgment transmission from someone else… but often there is no response at all and my brain is just crazy enough to want to solve this puzzle that I lock in that talk group so I’m definitely not missing any comms on that TG.

Any ideas? I assume since they’re hearing chatter on the “CB” it must be some kind of delivery by truck. But so many people not directly connected to 2-way radios often refer to any radio as a “CB” so while I think my assumption is valid… I could be wrong.

I never hear any follow up comms. Just the heads up someone or something important is close by… and MAYBE an acknowledgment. But that’s IT.

I like a good mystery… but I’m far from being the crew from Scooby Doo.

Anyone in the know?

Many thanks!

I can’t determine RID as I’m driving at the time. But it’s always NORCOM Police Tac 11 and I’m always locked onto the ESPCA simulcast.

New transmissions at 0414 this AM. Same talkgroup NORCOM Police Tac 11:

“I hear them talking on the CB”

“Received”

“This time I hear them mentioning they’re bringing the (avid?) So they must be about 10 minutes out”

“Acknowledged”

End of transmissions. Police Tac 11 clear for at least a half hour.

I can’t confirm the word “Avid” but that’s sure what it sounded like”. Long A sound.

The plot thickens…

More transmissions that might help identify what is happening:

Today 11/4 Still NORCOM Police Tac 11.

0417: Okay it looks like we have a miscellaneous trailer here… not sure why.

0417: How can we be late when we’re on time?

04:24: Chatter on the CB… they should be here in 5 mins or so.

0430: Okay… they’re here you can shut down the intersection

0431: I don’t know if the lead truck is new or not… he may not… well actually he DID make the turn.

End of transmissions.

Sounds like a truck carrying an over-sized load that has to negotiate a turn that requires the Police to shut down the intersection while he makes the turn. The "CB Chatter" is probably the truck talking to the accompanying escort car(s). We have a similar situation where I live. There's a concrete company in town that make huge sections for bridges. The trucks transporting the bridge section travels with two escort vehicles. Their communications with each other is usually on CB radio.

That would make sense and fits what is being said. It may some large construction site somewhere where they are getting daily deliveries of equipment or large parts like bridge sections or something.

on my off days, I would work for a company doing mobile/manufactured home repo's, in towns with two lane bridges and two lane overpasses we had to acquire permits and police to man both sides. spent many hours playing quarters waiting for available units when the boss forgot to pre-arrange

Especially that time of the morning when traffic is probably extremely light.

Yes! This is exactly what I speculated from this morning’s comms. Thanks for the great answers. I should have been more clear in the fact that I’m hoping, since this is a daily operation, that someone might know the specific location and/or what is being transported.

Agreed.. whatever it is.. it’s BIG. Maybe something related to Boeing? Renton plant? NORCOM Police Tac 11 is a talk group WAY down the list with respect to anything on the system so I could see Renton PD or really anyone on the King County trunk using it just because it’s available.

I don’t think I’d be so invested in figuring out the mystery if it wasn’t a daily occurrence.
My rig has the ability to listen from DC to Daylight as they say… including a dedicated CB scanning all 40 through an NMO 27 with a great and proper ground plane. High up in Newport Hills, Factoria, Bellevue. I can’t hear the CB chatter they mention so the location must be a significant distance away.

My curiosity just can’t put this to bed! Ha ha ha. Even though because of that 0303 alarm I do, myself, have to get to bed.

Thanks all!

3 will get you 5 it's the Link Light Rail East construction detail. Off duty cops (probably a contract with Bellevue PD) directing traffic around a site/stopping traffic at intersections while the construction material rolls through.

Before I escaped got out of Washington I did a bunch of this exact same stuff in Northgate for the North extension (right near the mall). We would have tandem semi trucks roll in 3x night with 125' long girders for the elevated portions of track. The rolled from *wherever* with a WSP CVEO escort detail and would hit us up on Zello (I built a talkgroup for this) when they were 5 minutes out. We would shut traffic down so they could roll through and into their staging area.

Spoiler alert- a tandem truck with 125 feet of really heavy steel uses the entire intersection and road. I once had a guy who was infuriated he was being forced to wait a few minutes and tried to blow past me and into the road as the load rolled through. He literally had to drive over the curb and into a yard to avoid being crushed to death.

WOW! So many questions here... Ford Explorer? What is the bottom radio? What is the interface on top of the dash? What are you running on the iPad? I really like the console install that you have here.
