Troop,

2B ran a gun the other day and dispatch came back with "Clear, no record". I guess "clear" means not stolen, but what does "no record" mean?

Also I am wondering what happens when you catch an aggressive driver with an RP willing to sign. Do the aggressive drivers get issued a ticket for the offensive that was observed by the RP? Or, is there some sort of "aggressive driving" ticket that gets issued?

Thanks..

"no record" means there was no record found through DMV of the party ran. Usually dispatch will then "tele-type" DMV to have them check for the party.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

So basically they can't find the guy? Probably, commonly from misspelling or incorrect DOB?

Ran a "gun" or a "guy"?

In any case the previous answer is correct...it or the person was not wanted (clear), and there was no record of it or the person.

If it was person, it could be that there was a misspelling of the name, the wrong DOB, or they were checking in Colorado while his DL might be in another state, or he just didn't have a DL. While a check if someone is wanted (a clearance check) is automatically a nationwide check, a check of a DL has to be done for the state the DL was issued in.

I know you wanted Troop to answer this, and if I'm incorrect, I hope he straightens out my errors. I have experience with this in my previous job as a dispatcher and my current job. Hope this helps.

Checks for warrants use "Soundex", which means that sound-alike or similarly spelled names are returned as possible hits. This also includes similar DOBs. DMV checks need to be exact.
The OP did say "gun." No record means the gun hasn't ever been involved in a crime or previously checked on.

well that saved me some keystrokes...all are correct...no record found means no DMV/DOR matches. and as far as the traffic complaints. They are usually issued a citation for the most specific charge of the complaint IF the r/p can identify and IS willing to testify. 95% of the time the finger pointing starts and once they find out everybody is getting cited...it goes away as a lesson learned

Thanks Troop. Not that I am planning any aggressive driving in the future, but I wondered how most of these incidents turned out. You can't be everywhere at once, so on the plus side you can 10-75 without probable cause if the RP is willing to sign. This often leads to other to problems with the driver or vehicle not related to the original complaint.

Sounds like overall the *CSP has been a good thing. Except maybe when they are coming in every 5 minutes..
