I have a 2 to 3 part question:
I have a Pro 106 scanner which I do like however, I have used Scan-cat Lite with my past scanners... Pro96, 97, 95. However, I can't get Scan-cat Lite to work with the Pro 106. Contacted the owner several times for support he was helpful willing to work through and help me, however we were unable to figure out why it wasn't working.

And so I'm in the process of switching to a new programming software. I'm looking at WIN500 and have used about 2-3 times the software under trial. It seems really simple. I am also interested in it due to the ability to remote monitor the scanner.
I am a Telecommunicator (dispatcher) for a small town in Massachusetts. When it is quiet which isn't often I like to scan State Police RI and MA, and additional nearby departments. However the building (dispatch center) is solid brick and receives horrible reception so I would like to remote my scanner however still have control of it to turn on and off banks, channels and the settings. From the experience I have had with WIN500 it seems very easily capable of handling this. I was wondering if anyone has any input suggestions, also experience in setting up a live scanner system to monitor over the internet.

I have a computer need to reset up (haven't used in a long time), have the cable, wireless internet (should I use hard wire internet connection). How do I go about operating the system I also have an IPad any experience of using the Ipad to remote the scanner connected to a PC? Would remote desktop work better or through server?

Any input would be and is appreciated thanks,
Nick R

ScanCat

You'll find most people detest ScanCat(Lite) and consider it to be junk. I tried it on several scanners and found that it did not program them properly. There are tons of threads here on RR regarding this issue. Do yourself a favor and get WIN500 or ARC500 to program the PRO-106. You get what you pay for and might even find yourself liking the PRO-106 afterwards.

Remote Control

I have done this. I did it by setting up the host computer (where the scanner is) for remote login. That enables me to make changes to the scanner. Then I used streaming software to stream the audio and listen to it remotely with something like WinAmp.

should I use hard wire internet connection
Yes, especially since you will be streaming the audio in addition to needing the remote login.

IPad any experience of using the Ipad to remote the scanner connected to a PC?
Is the iPad running Windows? If so, seems like a no brainer.

Would remote desktop work better or through server?
I never did it that way. I simply log in to the computer directly.
