• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

In my collection of Motorola Radios (just see my QRZ page under N4SYR) I've recently acquired 5 Sabers, 3 of which are Astro Sabers. One of the Astro Sabers brings me to my post & question. It is a Model II (H04KDF9PW7AN) with a flash code of 000001-002000-5 which translate's to H35/G48 - Conventional Operation & Q241 - ASTRO Ready (Analog Operation ONLY). What exactly is the Q241 mean in laymen's terms? My best educated guess (and mind you I've just started getting into the Saber models) is it is set up to do Digital like P25 but currently doesn't the way it is now?!?!?

This very much depends on the DSP firmware. If the DSP firmware version in the radio does /NOT/ start with a N or I then it requires firmware reflashing and a FLASHcode uplift to enable P25. If the radio's DSP firmware version starts with a N or I then it only needs a FLASHcode uplift.

How would I find out if the DSP firmware contains the "N" or "I"? Does is show in RSS/CPS?

You can read the radio, or just put into field test mode by powering it on, within 10 seconds, hit the SB1 five times in succession within those 10 seconds, and the radio will beep, then start scrolling it's model, serial, flascode, VOCON size, HOST/DSP, encryption (if installed).
You may have to do it two or three times to get all the data as it scrolls quickly.

So I tried to upload the pic but this forum is saying the file is to large. Anyways under version info the left single box shows "000C" and the two right boxes (one above the other) both say "UNKNOWN". What's to be made of that?
