Im new to the site and radio scanning, Im wanting to purchase a new scanner but confused on the proper choice for my needs. Ive been reading and researching information on Mint Hill, NC. From what I have found, the town has undergone a few changes over the years, new tower, now not using. The last info I read said, they have gone to Char mecks? My main question is can I pick up Mint Hills signals using analogue or will I need digital, all post i saw concerning MH were old and im afraid not up to date. Of course its an expense deal being the analogues are half the price. Thanks in advance for any help for the new guy.

Personally, I suggest going digital, start saving up now and invest in a good digital scanner that will last you a while. Before too long, all public safety in the area will be digital (VIPER, Pineville's system, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, York County, SC, Palmetto 800, etc).

Mint Hill's dispatch console has a new Radio ID, hinting that it is operating on the new digital system, so I imagine the switch for them is coming soon. They are now operating on the regional Charlotte-Mecklenburg network and can be heard on analog and digital, but once all radios switch to the digital side, analog traffic will no longer be passed. The Mint Hill system has been turned off as well.

If you've got any more questions feel free to post here, if you want to go direct, feel free to email me if you want any in-depth explanations or programming help.

Welcome to RadioReference, you're definitely in for a a load of knowledge if you hang around here.
