Hi,

Trying to puzzle out Hertford County; it appears to me at the county level they have moved to VIPER, but there are still NXDN listings in the conventional section. I notice that the municipalities are not shown on VIPER, so is it safe to say that NXDN is still required to monitor them? Is the sheriff still using NXDN for anything?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Hi, my name is Richard and I am the one who went to Hertford County and confirmed everything on the Hertford area about 2 months ago. Everything is accurate as listed and confirmed active as listed. Murfreesboro and Ahoskie use nxdn. FD uses 159.105 and is on VIPER. Either using vhf or VIPER (they are patched). Sheriff I don't remember from memory and I haven't looked before I saw your question. But what's listed is correct.

And I re-read your question. Murfreesboro and Ahoskie are not on VIPER. They may have access (or not) but they use the frequencies listed and are on nxdn. The RAN listed came up on my scanner when I was in each town with routine traffic.

I went to the database and took a look. When I was leaving Ahoskie, I was passing a Hertford Deputy with a vehicle stopped (getting a ticket) and the 28 was being ran on vhf using nxdn, and at the same time I heard the same transmission on VIPER in the clear. The VIPER tg is patched to the vhf nxdn repeater.

If you are wondering if Murfreesboro or Ahoskie PD are patched to VIPER they aren't. I was doing data dumps of the VIPER site in Ahoskie using Pro96com and a ws1040 at the same time (for around 3-4 hours) while monitoring the nxdn vhf frequencies for both towns

The concern was the duplication at the county level with both NXDN and VIPER listed. Knowing that the municipalities are still using NXDN and that it sound like the sheriff can be heard on both VIPER and their NXDN system helps to solve the mystery. Many thanks!

You are certainly welcome. If you are in town and discover anything new, please let me know. I enjoy driving around and confirming new frequencies and adding them to the database.
