question on programing software and cable for Kenwood TK780h

I have no Idea if I have posted in the right area or not but on to my question. I have a TK 780H version 2.0 two way radio that I am trying to find affordable programming software for on the net. i Have only really found one site that was partially helpful and the rest were junk. Can anyone tell me where I can find the correct programming software for this radio?
I was looking at the programming cables but they are rediculously expensive. Are the cables easy to make?

No. If they were they'd be cheaper.

Sorry I didn't post sooner, I was a little behind on reading posts. If you haven't already bought a cable, check on eBay first. Thats where I got mine and it works great. And they are somewhat cheaper there.

The cables are incredibly easy to make if you use a MAX232 chip (versus that 1980s design with the transistors). If you aren't handy with a soldering iron I'd take the eBay route as suggested above. I can make a seller recommendation if you need it.

The software is easy to get for free if you look long enough. Don't let the others fool you about the Kenwood line. It's not like setting up to program a Motorola radio. If you still need some help PM me.

The links that Wayne H sent me were a lot of help but I have encountered one problem. The wiring diagram I have is for a six pin mic jack and the one on my kenwood is an eight pin. How woud I do the wiring for this. It is probably basically the same hookups but I am having trouble finding a diagram that shows me what each color wire/pin in jack is for. can anyone help me out?

Build the cable with the six pin RJ25. It will work fine with the 8 pin RJ45 plug. The 6 pins are pins 2-7 of the 8 pin RJ45. I've used it like that and it works fine. You don't need those two extra pins for programming.
