Question on San Diego RCS System - How to select North, South or Roam for each agency on the system

I have a Radio Shack Pro 106 with the PC programming software, I have looked at the forums and found some great examples for how to program the radio. My prior experince with my Uniden BCT15's, and analog trunking do not have a north and a south system.

My question is when programming for example Santee Sheriff do you put it in the north or the south system? For Chula Vista or Escondido it seems pretty obvious (north or south), but i am not real clear on exactly the methodology on what zone (north, south or roam) to program specifc talk groups in, some only one, some both, some all?

Thanks.

I moved this from the new users forum to this forum. You should receive more help here :)

Thanks that makes a lot of sense.

I have a Pro 106 digital scanner, and I don't want to have to duplicate all the talk groups in each zone.

Do you know how Roam works in the system, should all the talk groups I want to listen to be added (duplicated) in roam, what is its main use?

Thanks, John KG6ODI

You should program all agencies North of the 52 in the North Simulcast and everything South of the 52 in the South Simulcast. This works great for me.

And since the FD & LE TACS are listed as North, South, etc, they can be added to the appropriate simucalst area. Countywide stuff would need to be added to all systems.

On my 396T I have both North & South Simu set on its own QK, with Local Agencies, Area Tacs (FD+LE), and Countywide TGs on each. I set it up the same for East Simu on another QK but added the East IR sites to the mix

Do the talkgroups on the North RCS also broadcast on the South. For example, I live in south bay, far from anywhere I could hear RCS North. Could I program some of the north talkgroups into RCS South (which I can hear just fine) and listen?

The majority of the North Zone talkgroups do not broadcast in the South Zone. There are a few talkgroups that broadcast in all Zones (Law Air, Fire Air, etc..). Please note that the North Zone coverage extends far past the 52 divider so it may be worth it to try.
