All of a sudden, after having no issues with my new 396XT for several weeks, when I press the "Menu" key,
instead of getting the menu, I get a screen message that says:

"Keep Safe Mode
Press FUNC while
Power On for
Full Operation"

Anyone have experience with this? How do I restore access to the "Menu" ?

You are in Key Safe Mode. To return to full operation, press Func while powering on the scanner. ????????

Well, Dan.... Seems you are a bit of a wizard on this 396XT stuff. I for one, bow to your uncanny problem solving skillz and grasp of the obvious. LOL

Thanks. It is strictly due to hard work though. This particular question took quite a bit of time for research.

Dan - you're the man!! That took care of it. Truth is, I have no idea of how I got it in that mode but it's out now and I appreciate your quick response. Just goes to show how valuable these forums are in allowing us to pool our knowledge and experience.

Thanks, Dan!!!

You are aware that the scanner told you on the display to push func while powering on, right?

Now why would anyone want to trust the sneaky 396XT and its' pompous directives when we have access to scan Wizard Dan? The heck with the dispaly prompts... I'm sticking with the Wiz.

Thank you, Halifax Dan, for your kind expression of information. Are you always so short? If I had time to look at the screen, perhaps I would have noticed. By the fact that I didn't see or read the screen message probably is the reason I chose to ask the question here.
