:idea: Don, just go to the RS website and click on "Sign up and Save". I'm sure it will be on sale again soon. The $75 off coupon boosted their sales tremendously, so I'm sure they will offer something again in the near future. Start saving now.

Well, it's $450 if you open a credit card when you buy it. (you get 10% off purchases when you do that). Now, the smart people (not saying you aren't smart) used the coupon and got it for $425 PLUS another 10% by opening the credit card, or a total of $382.50 (plus tax). Your first payment wouldn't have been due for a month, but I guess you do have to be 18 to take advantage of that, and I'm not sure if you meet that requirement. Then again, you may not be able to get the 10% off that anyone over 18 can.

No matter how many times you post about your grandpa, this still applies:

"Well, it's $450 if you open a credit card when you buy it."

Note the phrase "open when you buy"

No. Dude... pay attention.

Step 1: Go to Radio Shack.
Step 2: Tell them you want a PRO96.
Step 3: Tell them you want to put the PRO-96 on a NEW RADIOSHACK CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT.
Step 4: (assuming you have good credit) Sign up for said NEW account. This qualifies you for the 10% discount. This means your out the door price is about $450 plus tax.
Step 5: When the bill comes one month later, pay it in full and close the card out. You're done.

If you follow steps 1 thru 5, you will have a shiny new PRO-96 for $450 or so.

In the event you don't qualify for the card (not everyone does) why don't you save up for 5 weeks instead of 4 so you can pay cash for it? Also, RS may have a layaway plan. If they do, wait until it goes on sale again and then put one on layaway at the sale price. Then you can take up to 3 months to pay for your scanner if you want to.

Honestly dude, I know you're only 18 but this is just common sense, man. :roll: Take some time and think it over before asking the obvious.

Holly what are you talking about. With any radio no matter what make or model you will have a few that have bugs or some defects.

I have had mine since Oct. /03 and it has been working probably 12 hrs a day everyday since. NO PROBLEMS at all with mine. Best Scanner I have ever had

Well, considering that it's the most reliable digital scanner on the market, you don't have much alternative. The Unidens had a TG bug - the 96 had a TG bug. The 96 had a lockout bug, the Unidens have audio setting issues. The 96 has intermittant volume knob issues, the Unidens have roller reliability issues. On top of all this, the Unidens have always had decoding problems. Pick your bug/quirk. :wink:

Add to that, that the Pro-96 will use AA's, while Uniden still insists on staying with their battery packs. While that may not be an issue for some, personally, it is an important selling point for me.
