Question to anyone that has tapped a PRO-2052 Discriminator

How exactly do I go about tapping the discrminator and what is required to do this?

Pin 9 of IC 2. Trace the circuit to R44 and solder your tap at that point. There may also be an unused solder pad between D45 and R86, which will also trace to pin 9. Download Pete Crapi’s SM-2 of 4 zip at

and go to page 22 in the pdf for the location of R44 and the trace to pin 9 of IC 2. I use a ground near the antenna ground point and mounted the jack next to the antenna jack

while we're on the topic of tapping a discrminator, how might I go about doing it with a PRO-93? I'm trying to use a program to decode ACARS transmissions off of aircraft. Thanks in advance!

I don't have the Service Manual for a 93 but the 95 and 96 both lists TP 4 as the tap. The chips on the 2052, 95 and 96 are the same (nearly) and pin 9 is the disc output. The 2052 and 96 label the chip as IC 2. The 95 has it as IC 6 and my bet is that is what it's called on the 93. BTW the 92 uses the same chip but labels it IC 301 with TP 301 as the tap.

To help find the thing on your radio will be more elusive because the Pro-95 Service Manual is published without a main board view so my guess would be to look for a TP (4 maybe) near the squelch pot that traces to pin 9 of a chip with this numbering on it; MC or KA 3361CD.

Its marked as KA on the 96, 95 and 92 but appears to be MC on Uniden built RS scanners. Anyway look near the pot.

Hello,

ACARS is AM so tapping the FM Discriminator will not work. You need audio from the AM Detector.

Thanks for telling me Eric, that would have really been bad to have done all of that for nothing. Do you have any information on how I can get audio from the AM detector on a pro-93?

Usually a simple connection thru the earphone jack will do. You may need to increase the volume a bit because of the usual attenuation (many manufacturers add a resistor in series with the jack to reduce the chance of overdriving an earphone) but that should work just fine, dependent of course on what ACARS package you will use.

For the 2053 this is where you can find the AM tap point for that radio. Dunno if the 93 looks the same.
